I'm usually not this petty, but I am SO looking forward to telling a few nay-sayers they can promptly suck-it.

Not only did it start, but it runs like it was never dead in the first place! I know we still have lots of work to do, but thank you guys SO much :)

Here's the super-short video with lots of Oh my God and some standard profanity.

Wonderful, I guess now we gotta see how many modules are dead.

That shouldn't be too difficult - it's whichever ones are the most expensive I'm sure :)

Used stuff shouldn't be too expensive, the SRS is probably the most expensive one.
The nice thing about Toyota is the majority of their modules don't have to be programmed.

Need to hook the scope up and start plugging stuff in and see which one(s) make the CAN signals go wonky.

I took a break to bask in that feeling of when something didn't go as planned, but in a good way.
Also stepped on a skateboard wheel and twisted myself up pretty good.

The weather is supposed to warm up tomorrow, so I'll make my way back out there to plug in and scope one by one:

    a. YAW RATE AND DECELERATION SENSOR
    b. STEERING ANGLE SENSOR
    c. BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU)
    d. CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY

If I had to guess, I think the brake one will be the culprit, just by looking at the scope stuff. Maybe the airbag one as well.

Below is a screenshot of a text I had sent back when it all started. Aug 1, 2022. Lightning hit a utility pole and took out several things in the house and knocked power to the workshop if I recall. I still can't believe it started and idled and had the purring kitten sound :)

Hey-o the combo meter just arrived. I guess we can save that for later. I'm heading out now to re-connect/scope/test those 4 modules.

I'll learn not to announce I'm heading out here because every time something gets in my way. BUT I did manage to get out here and as somewhat anticipated, it looks like the Airbag sensor and the Skid Control are toast. I plugged in the Airbag one first and nothing communicated. Unplugged it and plugged in Skid Control only, same thing. Unplugged/plugged in the Steering sensor and things started working. Same thing with the Yaw Rate. Then I plugged in both the Yaw and the Steering and it still worked.

I'll get the scope screen vids uploaded later. You can really tell the difference between good canbius and jacked canbus.

Is there anything else I should capture/test/plug/unplug/look at while out here?

Hey, at least you didn’t step on a skateboard wheel. :D

Just read through this whole thread.

Op you are awesome, props for putting in the time and effort and also to keep coming back and providing updates which will certainly help another in the future. Glad to see the truck is starting to come back to life.

Props to @Dm93 and @TnShooter for the assists.

So looks like we need ABS and SRS modules yet.

I guess you could plug in the new Meter now and see if it works.

Definitely not my first language either. Should have seen me reading some of this stuff.

In the interest of time, I think I'll ask about this BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU) instead of searching all night, then still having to ask. What exactly is it that needs to be replaced please? I see at least 3 part numbers on it.

    upload_2024-1-22_22-43-2.png

    44540-04071
    89541-04171

Is it the whole thing, crudely outlined in blue, or can just the red part
    be replaced?
    upload_2024-1-22_22-43-45.png

Is something like this even close? Link from eBay.

    upload_2024-1-22_22-46-15.png

Please tell me the metal tubes attached to this part have air or pixie dust in them and not some kind of pressurized liquid.

I am embarraseed at how long it took me to realize what you meant by "meter". I was like multimeter? oscillo-meter? Then it hit me like 'duh' :)

It will be the part that holds the control board. The part that the plug, plugs into.
And I'm not sure it's sold as separate pieces.

There is brake fluid in the metal part.
    With a bunch of pistons......

The ebay linked part looks correct.
It would be easier (for me) to replace the whole unit.

Your likely only going to be able to buy the whole assembly but you can change just the electrical portion (black box part) providing the screws come out.

They are broken down by cab and bed configuration and if you have the tow package or not.
