I think Detroit Diesel/GM or whatever they were called had a hand in that. I grew up in Detroit, right off Grand River, there were tracks running down the middle, only removed tracks where absolutely necessary

Whoever "wrote" that article at Elektrek just straight-up plagiarized the text from a Harvard press release: https://seas.harvard.edu/news/2024/...design-charges-minutes-lasts-thousands-cycles

Anyway, if you read the next sentence past the "the battery can recharge in about 10 minutes" quote that you cherrypicked, you'd read: "The researchers built a postage stamp-sized pouch cell version of the battery." This begs the question of exactly what size battery they're saying can be charged in about 10 minutes. Is it the postage stamp-sized battery (with unspecified wH) that they built? Is it a theoretical cell phone battery? Laptop battery? 80 kWh car battery? 100 kwH? 200kWh?

Context with the automotive industry I suppose. Or, more accurately, the oil industry. Which makes it relevant to ev’s and both how they are marketed and attacked.

Ford cuts F-150 Lightning output, ups Bronco, Ranger production.

    https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/ford/2024/01/19

Ford Motor Co.'s decision to reduce all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup production is affecting 1,400 jobs in Dearborn. Meanwhile, it's hiring nearly 900 people in Wayne for assembly of Bronco SUVs and Ranger midsize trucks.

The Dearborn automaker in a Friday news release said it’s seeking to balance production to meet customer demand. It says it expects growth for Lightning sales this year, but it’s less than previously anticipated. The production cut is the latest pullback by the automaker in the EV space.

“We are taking advantage of our manufacturing flexibility to offer customers choices while balancing our growth and profitability. Customers love the F-150 Lightning, America's best-selling EV pickup,” Ford CEO Jim Farley said in a statement. “We see a bright future for electric vehicles for specific consumers, especially with our upcoming digitally advanced EVs and access to Tesla's charging network beginning this quarter."

This is what happens when you rush an inferior product to market. Exactly what Toyota wants to avoid with current slow charge low range battery EV chemistry.

Not to mention the dealer markup was criminal. Ford has a reputation for that.

Some quotes from a couple recent EV articles. EV isn't looking so cool or cost effective right now.

This week, Hertz said it was tapping the brakes on its EV rollout, citing the plummeting resale value of its EVs and the high cost of repair.

Individual Tesla owners also haven’t fared well. Over the course of 2023, the value of one-year-old EVs fell 35% in the US, about double the depreciation of used internal combustion vehicles, according to researcher Cox Automotive.

You mean in the toilet. Demand is way down. Ford and GM cutting back on EV production. But stay asleep to the facts if you want to.
