I just need to barter metal work for wood work

If you skip to my first posts here, you'll see my first wood+metal projects

Was even considering making a stool earlier, but I don't have the wood or the tools to make the contours needed for a wood top to sit on

 

I had some scrap wood from a backyard project and had the idea to make a display. I lost 2 Lexus ES 350 in 2022 to some dumb drivers 5 months apart and still have the tags and an emblem from one so I went and made a rustic little display case that only cost me $20 for the stain.

Used what was a extra pine stair cut to size, some pine 2x2 for the edge framing with a little router work, made a few .5" spacers to hold the license plates off the backing to give it some depth, and hot glue to get the emblem in place (probably will need to revisit that down the road with something more permanent lol).

 

I remember your recent gaming stand collaboration with Wilcam47. My neighbor does some metal work and we trade out sometimes.

Been selling dino's (they're in the BST section) and I get some weird barter offers

 

Damnit I need to up my trade game. My only major selling point is damn near unlimited supply of Osage orange (aka bois’d’arc “Bow-Dark” for us Texas folk)

My real question is, with some of the pics you guys post here (including painting/staining) how do y'all keep that dust out and off yourselves

2 dust collectors, 2 shop vacs, and an air hose to blow things off if needed.
And my wood shop is separate from my metal working stuff.

 

A widowed neighbor posted to our subs FB page asking for some help for her 11 year old son who has shown an interest in woodworking. I volunteered to help her. I'm thinking of some basic safety stuff and maybe letting him help me build a small work bench he can have home. Safety around hand tools and sharp edges and such, measuring, etc. Not having kids, and remembering kind of where I started, any pertinent thoughts or ideas? I still have the first plaque I made in Jr. High shop class hanging on my office wall.
