I tell you, there are times when doing some simple 2D design work would be a great break for my brain.

Yesterday called my local 4x4 shop and left a message on voicemail with Jim that I had some work I wanted done to my GX. Have him programmed into my cell phone. Didn't hear back which isn't like him so I sent him a text this morning. Didn't hear back so around 3 I did a search on a hunch. And found his obituary, he passed away 3 weeks ago.

2 years older than me, it is a bit scary that when you can't get a hold of someone you think the worst at this point in life. They claim if you can make it to 70 it is smooth sailing until 80's. I'm not so sure about that but do know a lot don't make it to 70. Please don't hesitate to see a doc if you are not feeling well. That suck it up crap is for kids and ain't none of us that anymore.

Went out to the website for his shop and seen they have a new phone number so called it and one of the guys picked up. Jim had 5-6 young bucks that worked for him and they are going to keep the lights on, the soonest I can get in is a week from Thursday. Good news his legacy and shop will carry on but I will miss Jim. Lots of people said he was a grumpy old man, no he wasn't. We got along just fine and totally understood each other. We both just hurt most days. And had little patience for stupidity and lack of common sense that seems to exist in abundance these days.

sucks to lose good workers and business owners like that.
as a girl i'm usually a little cautious about where i take my vehicles for stuff - don't want anyone to think they can pull a fast one on me because i'm a girl. so once i find a place that i like and trust i stick with them. I had a couple of shops that did good work and the guys were all old school mechanics that wore the blue overalls and had the red rag in their pocket that was multiuse as an oil rag, hankie and napkin  they all retired about the time COVID hit. Miss them and still haven't found anyone to replace them.

Well our day of rain turned into two. Just under 2" total. Pretty good for this time of year. Checked half the roads today, the other half tomorrow. What I seen today looked good. A little scouring, some puddling but no real rutting. Hoping for the same tomorrow but can't be sure...that's why I check roads. Spot grading to start Monday. I already know tomorrow's roads need some dozer and grader work to reset the ditches and aprons and clean up a few washes.

I got the rap from a couple of people about the interlocking metal. Was like $22K for mine..an overimprovement to my house for sure. That last part though...

Seems like you have a pair, look closer..

Sorry to here that. Everyone over 60 needs a stress test. If you don't, you may end up under a car dead changing oil of even cutting the grass.
I had many pre heart attack visits but not a stress test. I should have and it got me. Thank God it didn't get me dead.

Like I've said before, the chances of a cat eating you are low...but never zero.

He was hungry, about an hour early

    Yea good chance you won’t.
The occupation has turned from a service to a business GENERATING PROFIT.
Kids are trained to look for the money, not repair an issue brought in.
When you get a estimate for $1,200 for things non related to your issue, before they have
diagnosed your issue, you know they are in full fishing mode.
Last few years were torture for me. Customers were bombed with double talk.
    Especially older ones.
On more than one occasion I would walk out and talk to a good customer and tell them to
decline everything I wrote down except for the engine stuff or the noise stuff.
The reason I trusted my shop is because 3 of us good techs were there. We kinda
hovered around. Had a few people fired because of gouging or we forced them out.
If I didn’t have those guys in there, I wouldn’t even walk in the door.
Integrity is few and far between.
Lying, cheating, and stealing is the norm. Investors come first..
I can’t help the situation anymore and now I’m in the same boat….
    It’s a very sad dynamic…
