I mentioned Sport mode on my BMW disables its start/stop. I hope the same happens on the Tacoma, but I don’t know if it does.

Serious question: if a 'Yota guy were to jump ship and go "Merican, which would be his best bet?

...and no, this is not intended to be a Trolly McTrollerson post.

I like the big screens. I don’t really need a picture of my truck on the screen though. :D

    You’re welcome.

The lower trim cluster is kinda lame, would have liked to see analog style gauges instead, but I am a little old school.

Not sure on the Tacoma, sure it is similar throughout Toyota’s line.

Talking 2024's, all 3 american contenders in the midsized market have been recently refreshed/new gen (availability is another matter... *cough* Ford Ranger). I really like the GM twins, with the GMC Canyon coming out on top for me. They've definitely had their fair share of new gen issues but it seems like most of the problems are software related and either has been fixed or would likely get better over time with updates. I haven't dug to much into the new Ranger but from what I remember the Canyon offered the best mix of standard options, interior, and performance. And I think it looks the best as well.

Does this on Acura as well - that would be a nice feature...I can't stand the start/stop.

I threw this together a while ago to look at the basic differences. We just picked up a new Colorado and its really nice on the inside.

Are we talking which of the Big 3, or most American made truck?

    https://www.cars.com/articles/2023-...ndex-which-cars-are-the-most-american-467465/

For most American made, would choose a Rivian, even though it isn’t on the list, it exceeds Class 1 weight limits. Would do the SUV version. Yes it is expensive, yes it is electric, would like to see if I could make it work for 95% of the things I do simply out of curiosity.

As the Big 3, tie between Ford and Chevy, Ram 2nd. They all build nice trucks. Since none of them make 6’ bed mid-size and Ram doesn’t even have one. Any one of the 1/2 Tons, would lean towards the GMs since they have an available diesel.

One thing I miss about switching from my 2018 to my 2022 was the ability to put custom images on the central screen at startup or while driving. On the rare occasion I had a passenger, the brief appearance of the “007” logo usually made them smile.

My wife’s 2019 still gives her a big “Hufflepuff” coat of arms every morning.

It would be nice if that feature returned on the 2024s.

The ranger is designed by Ford Australia and is built to compete (and outsell) the Hilux. I’d go with that.

My moto buds in OZ do like the Ranger over the HiLux. One is in the mining industry, spent plenty of time in HiLuxes and LCs, he hates them, but that is just one man’s opinion. He makes fun of my lust for 70 Series, says they’re terrible. Ironically he would love if they could get the Tundra. Always want what you can’t have.

I agree. This is the Cobra I used to fly (AH-1W) vs the new one (AH-1Z).

Believe it comes from growing up with them, find and analog easier to read than digital, prefer my watches that way too. Like anything guess I could get used it, though do love the gauge cluster in my 3rd Gen.

Always wanted to be a helicopter pilot, determined that joining the military was the best way to do it, however my WWII vet grandfather talked me out of it.

    Right. Go with the Aussies.

Arguably the toughest proving ground on earth for off road vehicles with virtually every global manufacturer invested in a midsize truck there. If they love their Ranger, I’m at least listening.

These are good points as well. I should really look into the new Ranger a bit more.

If I had to buy another mid-size right now the Ranger would probably be at the top the list. The bed dimensions are more functional and you can get a pretty loaded Lariat 4x4 with over 1500 lbs of payload (confirmed on vehicle sticker at auto show) and the tow rating is solid as well.

I realize that this is an annoyingly vague question, but generally speaking, when American vehicles have issues, is it typically a bunch of recall type shit early on and then you're good, or is it more of a lifetime thing?
