New Leaf Springs Needed ?

A year or so ago I added a leveling kit and slightly larger tires to my ‘06. All was well with the world. At the next inspection I needed new front shocks; there was so much rake I had to pull the leveling kit out. She still sits nose high… this ain’t my forte but six year old leaf springs must be the problem? If so, I’m looking at a decent set from Icon, Denver, etc. as the truck is in great shape with no plans by me to sell it. Thoughts from the hive mind?

 

I did 3rd Gen takeoffs all around, 5100 shocks in the back and supersprings when I carry a load. I’m very happy with my setup, but if I had to do it again I’d buy rear springs from a spring shop. The following url was posted by another user:

Your nose looks pretty high for having taken out your leveling kit. What shocks did you install? Were they adjustable and set too high?

As for the rear, could you post a picture of your leaf springs? Do you have any weight in the bed in that picture besides your tonneau?

 

I agree with you. They are not adjustable. I was concerned the wrong part was installed but the guy that did it has been reliable.

about 180 lbs. of sand bags in the rear; I will take a photo.

My vote is something wrong up front.

If a preassembled spring/shock was installed I'd be suspect of it being the wrong spring.

 

Yeah, that looks like some serious preload, or a wrong spring installed.

 

Definitely get a picture of your front shock, and the angles of your front axle and control arms. So picture from front, and another of the upper part of your coilover where it mounts.

Well the issue is your springs were installed upside down, duh!

I'm kidding. I was just poking around TW, saw this thread and thought of a "haha". Hope someone who actually knows a thing or two is able to point you in the right direction!

 

The leaf springs and bump stop are the recall replacement. Unless you're hauling or towing a lot they should be OK. Like a few others have stated, the front spring seems to be the issue.

 

What springs would be a good swap in? On road use only.

 

3rd Gen OEM takeoffs from a relatively new truck would be a good option. They pop-up on here or FB marketplace pretty often as people upgrade. Bilstein 5100s are a very common option, as well. These can be set to your desired lift height.

 

There's nothing wrong with the rear springs. It's likely from wrong front coilovers. Are those even OEM?

Your leaf pack looks fine. It's just your front end that's messed up. Who put those coilovers in? Do you have a brand and or part number on those?

Better aftermarket replacement packs are like 7-10 leafs

not including single AAL or Icon progressive AAL

don’t know what your front suspension is.
Rear looks like you have about 3 leafs. More leafs is taller.

 

Leveling kit is something that gives a small lift to the front to reduce notable rake of the vehicle.

Stock were 2 leaves + 1 overload through 2011, I believe, then they were 3 leaves + 1 overload, which you could get via the TSB for older trucks.

Better packs can come in 3 leaves, or 13 leaves, or anywhere in between. High number doesn't necessarily make them better.

More leaves don't necessarily make a truck taller. That depends on the arch of the springs. Lots of 3 and 4 leaf packs for BIG lift and low, and packs of ten with negligible lift but higher payload.

 

Idk what my TSB pack was either 3 or 4 but either way wasn’t tall. Switched to used RXT, ended up taller and riding better

 

All I know is that they are KYB. I used a good guy, who was starting his own shop. Has been reliable... but I am frustrated. I do not have a part # to crosscheck...

 

Sounds like a definite bummer, if it was a guy that you considered reliable.
From what I am reading the 3rd gen coils/shocks would work on your ride?
Too bad you are all the way across the country, as I am in NE and have some OEM coils/shocks from the front end of a 2020 TRD OR that I purchased and took out at round 9,000 miles; still in excellent shape.
