Will the 4th gen 8 Spd transmission work in 3rd Gen Taco

Reason I was asking is due to driving a lot on the highway and the 6 speed transmission is not very efficient.

My local dealer has one, ONE, allocated. Barc red 2 wheel drive. Havent seen one in person yet

In the BMW world, a ZF 8spd swap into older cars is gaining popularity for drag and roll racers. There are off the shelf kits for several motors that also include the Ford 9inch. They become real frankensteins.

Im gonna watch the 4th gens from the sidelines for a while. Next oil change, ill be at 100k miles on my 2018. Gonna put another 100k miles on it (4 more years or so) and see what the 4th gens are doing then. Probly keep my '18, been the best truck ive ever owned

 

6cyl + 6spd = 12 and 4cyl + 8spd = 12 , so Mathematically they are the same. Loose 2 cylinders add 2 more gears Right ?

 

Yes it works, I've done a few swaps. Just did one this weekend.
