Also worth mentioning that the ‘24 Tacoma will presumably be the first American truck sharing a platform with the global Hilux since 1994. So I’m pretty sure that Toyota’s Australian engineers have their fingerprints all over our new Tacoma.

Lots of really good options later this year, once the lots start filling up.

Every vehicle has issues no matter what the brand. Now more than ever since Covid screwed up so many supply chains.

With all of the mid-sizes all relatively new platforms. All a crap shoot right now, won’t really know how or or bad they are for another 5-10 years.

Safe bet is to off it when hits 100K miles, then try something else. Or if you like it, buy another. Or…off it every 2 years if you’re Taco Buffy. :)

    Could also lease too.

Do like the look of the Amarok.

There was this one time Ivan Stewart liked the Ranger so much, they slapped a 4Runner body its chassis. “Hybrid” too, before hybrids were cool…

Yup. By 100K you’ll know if the truck is a POS or worth keeping long term.

    Yep.

Take me 5 years to hit that mark. 2.5 years more to go with the current truck.

200K is a better gauge if a vehicle is worth its salt. Most will do it trouble free, though domestics seem to loose their trannies around 150K.

    There's also a time component.

100k over 2.5 years is not the same as 100k over 10 years.

Avoid Gladstone like the plague. They were adding on their junk and above MSRP during the covid years. Damian has plenty of 3rd gens on the lot with good discounts. I imagine Beaverton and Wilsonville are far below MSRP as well.

More functional how? Because you can fit a sheet of plywood flat in between the wheel wells? Who does that with trucks…

    Manly men.
That is kind of the point of a pick up truck. To pick things up.

If you don’t drive many miles per year then I wouldn’t worry much about reliability at all. Buy whatever you like and pay it off in 5 years. Drive it another couple years with no payments then trade it in with 70K miles on it. Do nothing but oil changes. Live the dream.

True, also depends where you live too. In the rust belt, not sure I would keep a vehicle over 5 years, at least if you want to recoup some of your costs.

I drive 20K/year so that is why I am using that metric, most do what 12-15K/year?

That was so bad, when most VW fans have been yearning for another microbus.

That's one thing you can do, 4 ft pallets are another, then there is more volume all together that is not a bad thing on a camping trip or doing anything else if your getting a 5 ft box. I also think their take on a built in bed step is a bit handier. Then there is the payload thing that gives it a bit more function. Then there is the outlets in the bed that give you a normal outlet and a 12 volt.

As a guy who finds himself hauling drywall/plywood more than expected, 4' between wheel wells would be nice for sure. If I do end up going the tacoma route I know there's plenty of cheap and easy diy solutions for level loading sheet stock. But having that ability from the factory is a nice feature.

I discovered that you take that feature for granted until you don't have it....I went from a full size truck to Tacomas several years ago and didn't think anything about it until I went to pick up some plywood for a project..lets just say I had a few choice words for the truck that day...lol...

.Pallets are one of the things that are really annoying, but I think I have finally remedied that since I converted palletized stuff to plastic pallets that fit between the Tacomas wheel wells.

Even a Tacoma with its narrower wheel well spacing would be a step up from what I currently do... Every time I need anything in the 4' wide realm I need to hook up the trailer to the Jeep. Makes me feel silly driving home from Home Depot with one sheet of drywall/osb/plywood in an 6x10 trailer haha
