Got another question. On my 2007 now I noticed a coolant drip from the thermostat housing. Looks like the gasket leaking and pulling coolant from the reservoir. I'm guessing that whole line and a bunch of other stuff has to be removed to fix it? Or Can the gasket and thermostat be replaced without tearing half the truck apart?

Do you have the 2.7L or 4.0L?

In that case it's probably the plastic coolant bypass pipe leaking.
There's an updated one that's metal.
You have to remove the intake manifold to change it.

It looks plastic to me. I knew it couldn't be an easy fix. I don't know anything about removing the intake manifold

It's not a terrible job, 1-2 hrs for an experienced tech. Prob 2-4 hrs if you've never done one before.

There's quite a few threads about it on here if you search for coolant bypass pipe.

Looks like it, you also need the metal gasket if it doesn't come with it.

Prob should replace the intake gaskets as well.

I saw a few posts about it.
I'd never get it back together though. I know not to even try it.

First experience here - and you guys are awesome. I just picked up a 2008 Tacoma with 133k, my mechanic gave it a once over and found this leak (knew to look for it because he just fixed on another a couple months ago) - local Toyota dealer tells him 2- 3 month backorder on the part. 5 minutes on here and I find the options on RockAuto. Thank you @beaver trapper

The rockauto metal line worked great. It solved the problem on my 2007.

I did this job a few months back. Bought the metal pipe w/gasket from rockauto, also got the intake manifold gasket. Some of the threads on here make the job seem overwhelming but that’s because of all the pics of the step-by-step. I’d say it took about 2hrs with hand tools, no special tools needed.

@beaver trapper and @DailyTacoMD - question regarding the above - at the back end of this bi-pass there is a hose that is different sizes at opposite ends. Looking for a part number or some guidance to find one as I don't think the one that is on the truck will survive the change without a further leak. Thank you in advance

For future reference - the part number for the hose comes upto the firewall is part number 87209-04030, the smaller diameter hose is 16264-75131.
