2021 SR5. Bought it used 3 months ago. Been trying to troubleshoot the very short range with my key fob. Tried new batteries and different fobs. Looked up under the dash and everything looks normal. Looked under the hood and found these wires close to the battery. I googled the part ES-HW-3, but that's just the part number for the rubber end pieces lol. Appreciate any insight.

trace them, see where they end up? no? If the yellow is outside of the loom you should be able to follow it toward the front of the truck

Sorry maybe I should be more clear. The yellow wire is part of the block heater I had installed a while ago. I'm talking about the 3 thick white wires below it. They all have rubber caps on them. Could it be the wiring for a dashcam? I heard that can cause issues with key fob range.

Oh OK now I see them. I see a shitload of wires and 3 capped. 3.5L AT truck? I know I dont have those on or near my loom from the factory. Do you have any unused switches near the dash? Former owner removed an aux fuse block?

Yesh 3.5l AT. I've looked all over and it looks 100% stock on the inside. Those wires are pretty thick so it has to go to something that's drawing quite a bit of power. Do dashcam wiring look anything like this? I'm not sure

most dashcams would pull power from a fuse tap inside the cab. Mine pulls from behind the mirror. I stand corrected. I have 3 whites adjacent to the battery that go to a body ground lug right there and disappear into that loom. I wonder if someone pulled ground for something

    Reserected from the dead.
Those have to be grounds. You can see the exposed crimp copper below the heat shrink.

Can you put your multi meter on ohms, touch one probe to the body and 1 on those connectors. If it beeps, you know they are grounds.

Definitely GROUNDS, factory wiring splice sealed from moisture with epoxy or potting. Nothing to worry about, do not disturb them.

doubt it, my fob has hiccups where I thought I needed to change the batteries, then, the next day it worked fine.

NO. The receiver for the FOB is above the headliner at the front center of the vehicle, or so that is my understanding. Have you added anything in that area to interfere?

Just what are you considering wrong with your FOB? Please use specifics. I just tested mine to more then a hundred feet, more than sufficient for my use. Actually I don’t use it at all, the buttons mostly sit unused, it is the proximity that I use. My fingers on the door handle lock the vehicle, fingers behind the door handle unlock the vehicle. EDIT: Your SR may not have this feature.

lol, I just picked up my 2023 a few weeks ago and I saw that same odd looking bunch of capped off wires and was wondering the same thing! I think they are all just ground wires used for nothing.

Toyota uses "White wires with a Black tracer" for grounds in our vehicles, so yes. I too wondered the same as to what these wires were after looking over my new vehicle.

@Vlady had something to say, but looks like the comment was deleted?

I revisited your original picture and do see something that is not stock. You have a black tubing that is tie wrapped to the harness that the ground wires come out of - so in your investigation of your vehicle you might wish to see what those do as well.

The driver control receiver is up in the roof by shark fin antenna. SM states that the range maybe be affected by some interference. Check for added electrical components.
    upload_2024-1-25_14-27-36.png

Also, there is a warning about the door control receiver harness placement. Check if the headliner was pulled down for some repairs

Pretty sure it's part of the block heater I got installed about a month ago. That wire loom and the yellow wire run together.

My key fob is ridiculously short. Like 10 feet max. I park on the street and aim the key fob at the truck and it doesn't recognize it. I've tried different key fobs and different batteries. Normally I wouldn't care but I'm using a startx remote start but it's useless. I may have to get an aftermarket remote start installed which is a pain. The truck is stock with bigger tires.

Yup, not at the front of the vehicle as I "remembered". But here are some pictures of the device with the big S4 on the face I took when I had my rear cab disassembled.

Unplug/disable all electrical addons and see if the range improves.

    Yes, 10 feet is short.
Do you have anything in the left rear cab roof area, like a metal camper top that could be blocking the signal? Otherwise agree with @Vlady, but in your case you do not have any idea what has been done to the vehicle in the past to remove everything added.

Did it always, during the last 3 months of your ownership, behave this way, or did you just find out the truck has Remote Start and wished to use it?

Things as simple as a phone, computer, charger, etc may be at fault. Possibly even LED lights, if they were on? Oh, damn in your original picture the battery connection is corroded - clean the posts and connectors. Do this immediately!! Battery connections have been known, at least on this forum, to cause many strange problems.
