Icon 3 leaf vs Toytec 1.5 aal

Hey guys, couldn't find too much info on this. I'm torn between the Icon 3 leaf pack and the Toytec 1.5" aal for the tsb. Does anyone know how much lift I would get if I decide to keep the overload leaf in with the icon 3 pack? Is this even possible? I don't want to lose too much capacity by removing the overload, but I don't wan't the ride to be too stiff with the 1.5" aal. Has anyone installed the icon leafs with the tsb installed as well? Any info on this is much appreciated!

 

Can't help you on the ride quality, but I know you can leave the overload in with the 3 leaf progressive AAL (Wheeler's or Icon's). I'll be running this set-up shortly...
If I remember correctly, Jhodge is running the 3 leaf with the overload. If you search 'progressive AAL', some good threads come up talking about the Icon and Wheeler's 3 leaf AAL.

 

I'm running the Icon 3 Leaf but without the overload. Soon I will be adding the overload back in. Additional lift would only be about 1/2" (thickness of the overload leaf), since it wouldn't be making contact with anything.

Damn, now I gotta figure out who was running the 1.5" 3-leaf AAL with the overload... I coulda swore it was one of the Mods but I guess I was mistaken. Sorry man

Yes. However I can tell you that when I installed my Icon AAL it was supposed to be 1.5". Turned out that my truck was a little under 2 1/2" higher when I was done and has not settled in 3 months/5,000 miles. It could have been due to the fact that my factory springs were frowning a little bit and had 90,000 miles on them. In my sig picture the back of the truck had about 200 lbs of stuff in it, so it sits a little higher in the rear unloaded.

The ride with my wheelers 3 leaf is so good it tackles all the bumps like a pro. Of course you also need to get some 5100's in the rear as well. I left in the factory over load leaf in just in case I haul a heavy load.

 

I've got the Wheelers 1.5" 3 leaf AAL and love it. I don't have much experience with other options than stock or with a 1" block but it is completely different ride quality than those.

 

06TXED and CaptMorgan - do you know how much lift the 3 leaf AAL ended up giving you after it settled?

 

The ubolts provided with the icon 3 leaf, are they long enough to have the overload leaf installed?
If so is there enough threads to install axle shims as well if needed?

 

They are long enough for sure. These are mine without the leaf but you can see plenty of bolt left over (that I still need to cut off)

 

I am also interested in the answer to this. I installed my wheeler's 3 leaf AAL a few days ago and gained just over an inch. About 1 1/8". I do not have a topper, tonnau cover, etc. My truck is a double cab short bed w/ TSB springs. I was expecting to get at LEAST 1.5" (most of the stuff i've read on AAL's people end up getting at least 1.5" if not more...some a full 2").

Anyway, the good news is that I still have the option of putting my overload leaf back in...it's just a matter of doing the whole process over again.

Just as a shout-out to Wheeler's Offroad: Great customer service. I let them know that I did not achieve the full 1.5" of lift and was inquiring if other people had the same problem. They said most people get MORE than 1.5" but he said maybe a lot of people are running the overload leaf and just not mentioning wether they removed it or left it in...so they just assume it was removed. He said maybe that's covering up an issue w/ the AAL. Anyway, moral of the story...they are sending me new centering pins and I'm going to re-do it with the overload leaf in this time.

When I do the process again, is it necessary to remove the shock again? Last time it wasn't an issue because I was replacing them w/ 5100's, but this time I don't want to remove it if it isn't necessary.

You will have to loosen the bottom of the shock. Otherwise the axle won't drop low enough.

 

I got about 2 1/4" w/o the overload but I have the Icons. And my springs were sacked so some of that lift was just getting back to stock height. It has settled down to about 2" in a month

 

I had the wheelers 3 aal pack. it was like butter compared to a single aal. Worth every penny and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

 

yeah, the ride is very smooth...i'm pleased w/ the results (w/ the exception of the amount of lift).

Zombie- how much lift did you get with your wheeler's 3 leaf? And was it with or without the overload leaf in.

 

I did not use the overload leaf. I had about 2 1/2 inches of lift in the front and the rear was level, however much that is lol
