Spreading gravel with a shovel gets old quick!!!

I may sell my gooseneck trailer soon and find a dump trailer. We recently moved and I won't be needing to haul my tractor anymore. If I buy a big enough dump trailer I can haul my skidsteer in it if I need too.

I want a dump trailer for the never ending saga of driveway issues and bringing in firewood if I need to for the shop.

Don't forget the neighbors decor view of your trailer. Just thinking how beautiful it would be to have 2 to look at.:D

Sounds like he wanted to use a single axle dump truck, cause 10 tons is about the limit for most of those in my area. Anything more is a double axle & bigger fee.

Hauling it yourself can end up costing you more, depending on the stone yard. Lots of time the bulk hauler gets it cheaper than you can on your own.

Question time for you concrete guys:
my driveway is now 5years old. Its 6" pour of 4kpsi w/fiber.

Would you feel safe letting a concrete truck with 12yds drive on it if it was yours?
We need to redo our porch & she wants concrete again, but I'm not sure if I want them to drive on it. They use the big front nozzle trucks here & hold 12 yards.

    Input?

With your concrete being 6" thick with fiber, I would think it would be fine. But I'm a machinist not a concrete guy :anonymous:

    I wouldn't do it.

    Not having mesh bothers me.

I'd drive on it, 6" of 4000# psi will support a but load of weight. I really don't know how much difference 6" vs 4" thick concrete matters. But, if my math is correct that should hold 48000lb per sqft. If each tire covered at least 1 sqft x 4 tires on an axle, the concrete could support an axle wt of 192000#. That is several times what an entire single axle dump truck should weigh fully loaded, or even a tandem axle truck.

Though I'm not an engineer so lets bring one into ask his opinion. @hiPSI Did I completely mess up my maths or am I on the right track?

I guess it comes down to 2 choices.

Making the wife happy with that concrete deck...or you happy with a crack free drive.

It will hold it just fine. Will it be crack free when done is the question.

He said the concrete does have fiber in it, and that is a newer form of mesh. I didn't see where it did or did not have wire mesh in it.

Some of the how-to videos I've watched had both. If I ever get around to pouring my driveway in front of my garage I'll add both.

I'm sure some stuff changed over 10 years, but it could be useful so I appreciate you posting the manual!

Thanks to all of you for the input. So far it ends up being a pretty close split to yes/no.

Which is how I felt about it. It's obviously not really 6".... Its 5 5/8 or so...
No it doesn't have wire in it.
My concrete guy worked it backwards & it was never intended to have another concrete truck on it.... But the ground moved and the porch cracked & settled (porch was 4" thick on block foundation) so it all is gonna come off & be redone.
There are no "skinny" spots to crack, all the sections are 10' x' 10' relief cut.

My concrete guy said since the ground shifted under the porch/house that he would be afraid that it would shift/compress under the driveway with that much weight on it.
These trucks have the single fat tires on all axles & have 10/12 tires. For sure they are at least a foot wide or more.

The other option is doing a wood/synth decking.
Either way its gonna be done on floating/adjustable piers this time.
Concrete would be done by my guy with me as free labor to him & his guys.
Other way is me doing it all. Cost is within 1K either way........ So its all about the risk to the concrete.

Can you get a concrete pump, so you can leave the truck on the street?

Any way to use a concrete buggy from the street or would 12 yards take to long to do that way?

You have a long driveway so I do wonder if a pumper truck would be an option. I'd wait to see if one of the actual engineers on this site has an opinion. @hiPSI is the only one I know on here who is an engineer, but he can't be the only one... :notsure:
