The JL also has a persistent issue with exploding clutches. They've issues multiple stop sales and recalls over the last few years, but I don't think they've fully solved it.

Hence my borderline comment. The trans was selected for its size and is basically rated for what the 3.6 puts out. The taco has like a 20% margin for comparison.

As other have said, Toyota makes it quite hard to get a manual. Like to see if the numbers would be different if it was available in all trims.

Wanted one in my SR, but Toyota told me to go pound sand. At the very least they should it had it available in the ACLB OR, but no….the Canucks were able to get it though. Incredibly lame.

Dunno, all of my Toyota trucks except my 3rd Gen have been manual, doesn’t seem right being an auto.

All of our work trucks were manual. The medium duty 2.5 tons had two speed rear ends, those kept ya busy! All trucks should be manuals… otherwise they are just glorified cars with open air trunks. :p

This is true. If you get certified with a manual
the license is good for both. Fun facts, a large majority of cars and trucks worldwide are manuals. North America is the only place where the auto trans is the majority.

So based upon your biased personal opinion, manual transmissions universally suck and are only for "the younger crowd". Yeah, about that, I'm older, and probably a pretty good bit older than you, and from my perspective, anything with an automatic transmission sucks.

My English friend said autos are for the elderly and handicapped over there. Was kinda blow away by how many don’t know how to drive a manual here in the US. And in the not too distant future most people won’t even know how to drive when autonomous vehicles take over.

That actually isn't true anymore. It's down to about 1/3 of sales in Europe and that number is falling fast, same for South America. On the other side of the world, manuals are barely 10% of sales in China.

The new vehicle stats are interesting. I was referring to vehicles on the road. Those were the last stats I was looking at.

Ha. Fair. My bad there. We're getting closer to the end on this stuff, though. It's a shame.

Toyota didn’t even bother offering “premium JBL” on the MT PRO cuz they knew crazy folks like us will still buy them.

Why even bother? Because I will not drive anything else. The drive is much more engaging and fun. IMHO it also keeps you more alert behind the wheel. Well and it’s good for your motor skills as well…

I absolutely hate driving AT vehicles, super boring.

Got lucky with mine as well. Out of the blue the salesmen I contacted weeks earlier texted me one morning saying they had just been allocated a LR OR manual, and if I was interested. Luckily, it was bare boned which is what I wanted. MSRP of 39,xxx and bought for $38,xxx + fees. 7000 miles later still loving it.

Yea the sales guy I got had no interest at all in even looking for one, he did everything he could to tell me why I don't want a manual. Needless to say I walked out of there and found one on my own.

I love it when those morons try to tell you it will hurt resale value; the first time I heard this was in the late 1980s and I said, "I ain't buyin' this thing for the son of a bitch I sell it to, I'm buyin' it for me." And then I walked out; when I got my car from a dealership a few miles away the first thing I did was drop by and show it to the idiot who tried convincing me I didn't want a stick.
