That's a stupid reason to do so.

Yea and they still had a steering box and chain-driven tcase right? That might make it easier, although Zane said a while back that 1G Tacos aren't significantly harder to SAS.

WDYM? Most days I don't even start it up since I walk to work. Plus it's only worth like 5-7k in your estimation.

Cause your insurance may place a higher value, as you can always contest it if something shitty happened like getting totaled

Not to mention, unless you're a shitty person with a DUI or you're under a specific age (26 I believe), insurance on an old truck like yours shouldn't be more than $40-50/month

The truck has a significant amount of body damage and hail damage. As well as awful black paint. Before this he only parked it on military bases. While I don’t agree with it, he was willing to walk away from it in the event of a significant accident.

His first assignment after training has put him in a position where the truck is parked in an off-base lot for 12 hours a day.

rather than saving money on just running liability, have you looked into insurance agencies that charge based on your monthly mileage or something like that? Those can be pretty cheap if you don't drive much, and you'll have much better coverage

Liability won't cover any damage you sustain or your passengers sustain if you get in an at-fault wreck, plus other scenarios that may not be likely but if they happen it could really ruin you financially

Let's not forget you live in a bougie apartment complex, meaning less risk which means lower cost

Insurance takes into account where the vehicle resides on a daily

    Exactly

It is financially irresponsible going liability just to save less money than a 24 pack of red bull per month (unless it's a salvage title, then it's forced liability)

these are good points. I wonder if Hagerty would cover my truck? I mean I know it's not a show pony or Rolls Royce or anything, but it is technically a "classic" being older than 25.

ACTUALLY I had full coverage on an extra beater I let my ex borrow, it was a Mustang..think it was an '04 before I bought her a new one, and it was salvage title already that I bought for $100 or $150

I was able to put full coverage on it, and she got T-boned one day where a lady ran a stop sign

I contested the value and actually got over $3k or $4k for it

yeah with how sue-happy everyone is I want to have good coverage.

This reminds me I need to get a dash cam for the 4runner, that's another thing everyone really should have because people have no dignity anymore and will lie through their teeth. Can't argue with raw footage

I turn 27 next month, so I guess I could shop around again after that. State farm was charging me 116 a month for full coverage. I got a speeding ticket for 9 over 8 years ago, but I'm not sure if it went on my record. I have had couple minor fender benders as well.

BTW, would insurance cover an off road recovery if you broke an axle or something?

will do, will probably just a cheaper one, I don't need it to be running when the trucks off or be motion activated when parked or some crazy stuff they can do now, I think you can get a pretty decent one for under $100

Idk, I think Matt's Offroad recovery end up charging insurance for most of their recoveries. They actually got in trouble for insurance fraud a while back.
