My two wants would be -

Enough clarity to see the license plate in front of me when I play it back, and ample storage before it loops over itself (most have SD slots anyway)

My flatbed is on liability. I see no real reason to change that considering how hard of a life it has lived. A tree has fallen on it, it’s been flooded in mud water up to the steering wheel, the truck was in 2 recorded accidents, but arrived in my hands with significant body damage from a 3rd. I just couldn’t see a reason to spend the extra money while I made 45K-65K these last few years. Even with my new financial situation I likely won’t adjust that. It’s maybe worth $2000 in its current state with the flatbed, take that off and not a chance. This description is being generous to it.

My 04 is on full coverage and that makes sense for that truck and I agree with you that liability would be insane.

Well I was just curious. I go out solo sometimes. The more likely scenario is getting stuck in the mud somewhere.

Yeah, and I don't watch them so irrelevant

You were good half way through until that second part :burp:

But because you asked, I'll answer - you find out how your coverage protects you when you get it

Me? Yeah I'm covered in an off-road accident, and the only thing I'd be responsible for is getting the vehicle onto public road (however I make that happen)

But if it rolled and got totaled, I'm covered

I'll start shopping around then. Hagerty might be a stretch for my truck, but maybe I could get a cut rate if I don't drive much. How would you prove it though? I guess you'd have to put one of those GPS trackers on your dash.

@eon_blue this is why I wasn't worried if the Taco would've rolled, we would've just had to figure out how we would've gotten it flipped back over since the right edge was a drop-off :bananadead:

I would never opt for "sharing my data" over those things

And the "prove it part" is kind of like an honor system type deal

They can discount you more by using those OBDII plugs to really prove what you're saying, otherwise I'm sure they charge the same more or less if you say you drive a lot or drive a little

USAA, which you'd qualify for if -

You were military, your spouse was military, or your parents or children are military and they enroll you themselves to become members with USAA

Oh ok, I'm not from a military family so that wouldn't work for me. There seem to be a lot of highly rated insurance places around here though, so I can shop around.

It's your money, there is absolutely nothing wrong with shopping around

Sucks we gotta beat you up a bit, but as long as you learn some valuable lessons from it then it wasn't for nothing

Last thing we need is you to post one day "well guys...someone ran a light and totaled my truck. Had liability on it..."

Wouldn't their insurance pay if they were at fault though?

I agree it'd be good to have full coverage though in case you get into a he said she said situation or hit some black ice or something.

Ideally, but what if they didn't have insurance? If you had full coverage you could get made whole through your policy. If only liability, then your SOL.

CA requires everyone to carry liability at minimum but there are still tons of idiots out there driving without any

Your insurance would cover you and expedite taking care of your vehicle which would in turn leave them to handle getting their money back from the other person's insurance

This is assuming the other person has insurance or even a license

You have insurance to protect yourself for the "what ifs"; seeing as how you question everything, I'm genuinely surprised you would ever have liability on your clean title truck

That's true, I just feel like my truck would get totaled so quick cause of how old it is. I do think companies have started recognizing the value of these older trucks a bit more, but it can still be hard to get a fair value at 250k miles since they're not usually Toyota enthusiasts or whatever.

I remember years back my ex got into a fender bender just backing out of a parking space in an alley, didn't see a guy crawling along and bumped his fender. Just a dent in his beater, just a few mph impact.

Dude claimed he got some kind of major neck injury and dragged the case out forever, ended up suing and getting a big payment from her insurance because of it.

why it's good to have a decent policy to protect you from people just waiting for an opportunity to milk a situation like that

also why it's hard to have a positive outlook on humanity sometimes
