Long long ago, just before Christmas, 23 Dec 1990, my new bride's 1972 VW pop-top camper bus crapped outside of Bakersfield, bellowing black smoke after throwing a rod.

Crawling into Bakersfield at 10 mph, we slugged by a Toyota dealership. Both graduate students, I getting paid as a tutor and adjunct professor, maybe we could afford a new Toyota pickup through our university's credit union. We bought an SR5 extended cab, RWD, and 4 cylinders. We kept this 1990 pickup for 33 years, 350K miles... yet, it was worn out. Donated to DAV, Disabled American Veterans.

I began my search for something similar, a Tacoma 2Gen, access-cab, V6, 4WD. I did not like any Toyota Tacoma newer than 2015. Too much reliance on electronic components.

Beginning my quest in late 2023 and into Jan 2024, I narrowed my search to 2012-2015, less than 100K miles, single owner, and well-maintained.

I traveled the northwestern US by Greyhound and Amtrak in search of this mythical Tacoma. And I was always a couple of hours too late to be already claimed by another.

I completed my quest and I am pleased.
