    its built for the masses.

    wanna be different?

get a blower, intake, headers, y pipe, pulley, 3" catback, EMS, then u can keep "sports cars" at bay, haul toys easier, climb up in the thin air easier, and keep the MPG roughly the same.

But u wont be much different than some of the other guys on here I guess.

A cat-back can also get you 100 extra ponies, minimum.

agreed.......... N/a can put down a very low 0-60 traction dependent.

boosted......... well, thats VERY traction limited, but IIRC Werty was pulling 4 second 0-60s heavily modded and launching on 4wd

simply put, u gotta pay to play..... this is a pretty powerful MIDSIZE truck IMHO, its not a fullsize.

with the increase in tire size you change your 3.73 rearend gear to around a 3.50 gear. check and see what gear is in the Nissan, then you need to find out what low gear is in both transmissions.

I bought my 2007 frontier kc v6 manual trans nismo brand new and still only has 41k miles, only issue ever is paint... Recently I inherited a like new 2012 v6 automatic 4x4 tacoma king cabwith 48k miles, fully serviced/over serviced truck...

On paper both engines are about the same, but when I drive the tacoma :(

I live in hawaii where people worship tacomas, I decided to worship my nissan in 2006 when I bought it...

Anyhow, the darn tacoma has like 1/4 less power then my nissan due to the automatic trans and the way the computer handles it... I come up haleakala highway in 5th gesr in my nissan pullin over 60 mph easy, 1/4 throttle....With the tacoma my foot is pressing the accelerator by over 50% and I need to slap it into 4th way too early...

Im so dissapointed, now I might actually sell the tacoma instead of my nissan cause I cannot handle the sub standard power.....WTH

Old thread but I did a lot of digging and this is it....

Oh, forgot to mention, going down hill I end up going too slow by accident, way too much engine breaking..Now i use the cruise control to prevent that....

    exhaust. Regear. It’s 3.73.
Tune. Cam gears. Engine swap. Intake spacers. Pedal commander. Cam gears. Supercharger. Your choice.

it’s not fast. It didn’t get dual VVT like the 4runner 4.0 either.

Tacomas aren’t fast, and making them fast cost a lot of money.
    They get awful MPG too.

    So what’s the advantage?
Reliability. The engine is overbuilt. You aren’t likely going to kill it.
Toyota has done that for decades now. Over build it, under power it. Increase reliability.

plenty of engines make more power, efficiency, and reliability.
Overbuilt, underpowered, not tuned to the limit from factory or highest boost strong turbo.

that’s not Toyota engineers. I wish it was. Proof:
    -turd gen drivetrain
    -RA60F TOB
    -open deck
-4th gen PRO has stock travel and hitch welded to frame
    -C-channel frame
    Etc
They put old sedan power and scooter brakes in a 4x4

OP find a cheap donor car to swap and write a DIY.
    -Audi/VW 07K I5T
    -LS GM V8
    -Hellcat motor
    -Toyota/Lexus V8
    -B8 S4 3.0T
    -TDI/diesel such as 1.9L ALH, 2.5, 3.0, etc
    -Cummins
    -Duramax LBZ
    -RS 4.0TT
-Gladiator diesel is like 440tq stock

the more power and earlier available at low RPM the better

I had a 2006 Nismo, pretty reliable to 130K when the transmission and radiator decided to swap bodily fluids. Replaced the trans, and it pretty much went downhill from there. Found a 2013 Taco and it’s much smoother, quieter, and gets on average 6 mpg better. The Nissan seemed to have more brute power, but I don’t tow and rarely hit the freeway.
