Chewing gum is very popular in North America. Therefore very few manual transmission vehicles are sold. Most people cannot do both.

Any time I stumble across the occasional manual OR on some dealers lot, it takes a lot of will power not to buy it on the spot. I think a Prerunner-style trim, but with 4x4 and a stick would make a lot of friends.

Years back a guy in my autocross group had a supercharged xrunner in blue. Still one of the coolest things I’ve seen driving around some cones in a parking lot.

    other brands:
-configure new vehicle online how you want it and order
    -pay deposit
-wait for it to be built and arrive
-shipped to dealer on semi truck
-PDI done, get phone call it’s delivered
-option for factory pickup in Germany if it’s BMW

    does Toyota not do that

probably because it provides a light simple reliable roomy manual that gives ability to control and engine brake rather than falling asleep holding a clubfoot, and is typically an option

    that can be push started

Manual is less parasitic power loss. Matters when an engine makes low power to squeeze every bit out of it. And MPG.

there are not many places that justify an automatic. Such as LA 4 hour traffic to travel 5 miles.

That's easy, they don't know how to drive a manual.

It's at BMW Welt (BMW World Museum) but it is adjacent to the factory and pretty cool. Porsche and Mercedes-Benz offer the same. Porsche allows you to drive your car in Germany while you are on vacation here (they cover the registration to be road legal) and then dropping off at certain dealerships to then have it shipped to your home country.

To answer your question, no Toyota does not do that. They have a weird allocation system. I can't really speak to much to it because I actually just got lucky and found my truck here.

No money, all went to truck...
When Subaru stopped offering the turbo on their cars people were so upset but only a very small percentage of owners actually purchased the turbo.

I commend Toyota for carrying on with the manual despite every reason to stop offering it. I was so relieved when they announced it would continue in the 4th gen. Gives me at least one more chance to have a manual.

You won’t be able to get one in a few years so enjoy it. Because they suck. Probably less resale value too for yours!!!

I ain't exactly young, and I love manuals, so I can't see the correlation. But if it is not for you, its not. And that is 100% fine. BUT that doesn't mean they suck. Enjoy your automagical trans and I will enjoy my manuals (jeep too).... we can all get along...lol

The MT is definitely on the way out on the Tacos.
I expect it will not survive all the way to the end of the 4th gen. As I recall, It is only available on the lower trims - and then the MT trims engines are de-rated slightly... and NOT available on the hybrids which are the most off road capable.

So Toyota is making it less attractive. Understandable, as it is more profitable to build one vehicle - unfortunately it will cater to the lowest "denominator".

The best news is that I have my Taco. I got it - just as I wanted - at the end of '20 and so far have some 20k miles on it. - All mostly fun and adventure as it rarely gets used around town. So at this rate, it should last me quite a while...

I am now waiting for a full electric version as Hybrids increase the complexity - while EVs greatly reduce it (and I can fuel them with the sunshine on my roof!)

Wrong - in 3 out of four statements... :smack:

You really are looking at this with myopic vision; from here on in, the resale value on manual models will ALWAYS exceed the resale value of other wise identical models.

My friend had his F430 converted from F1 to manual and paid a large sum of money for it. He said based on what he's seen value wise the increase in value (even being a swapped car rather than an OEM manual) offsets the cost of the conversion by nearly 100%, if not 100%.

The ZF is not a true ZF in FCA products. It's built by FCA under license. It is a good transmission, light years ahead of the well-loved 5AT in the 2G Tacoma certainly, but as they get up in miles they get a bit quirky. FCA also claims the fluid is a lifetime fill while ZF has established intervals. To swap the fluid involves replacing the transmission pan since the filter is integrated and runs a pile of money. Luckily my wife's JGC has Maxcare so I'm not stressing it since there's no maintenance interval on the transmission.

Should have gotten a 2016, heated cloth with sunroof, the dream configuration. I checked whatever boxes I needed to check in 2016 when I needed a truck to get the roof and the 6MT.

    Cool opinion.

Hopefully they figure out the charging situation in frozen climates by then. Those poor Tesla drivers lately unable to get a juice up...

Agreed, driving AT is boring AF, anytime I have a rental I still end up pushing the shifter thru the gears.

I was looking at a manual Pro for my most recent purchase, but I really wanted an access cab. Conveniently, we in Canada could get an Off-Road AC with a manual. Combined with the TRD lift, and upgraded tires, it’s been cheaper and yet more capable in the woods than a MT Pro would have been.
I’m already married, so the scoopless hood is not a problem.

BTW: the dealers in the Kootenays seem to bring in a lot more than 1.4% manuals; is it similar up in the north?

Finding a manual definitely takes work. I imported mine from California to Pennsylvania to get what I wanted(Cav TRD OR).
