Third gen already has some sort of shroud.
I think it would interfere with my setup but not 100%. I've been send some pictures but none that confirm exactly what is going on.

    Hi all!
I am very excided to announce that I am finally an official Vender here on TW!
    upload_2023-12-20_7-28-31.png

I also wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
2023 was a great start to the business. There were some ups and downs. It started by our new 3D printer acting up and malfunctioning due to the manufacturer's firmware that was installed. The printer spent a couple weeks on and off in our local 3D printing shop. Hats off to them for helping us out through this process. This was of course in our busiest time of the year with the highest quantity of orders. Thank you for everyone's patience when we resolved the issues. In total, we had a comfortable 25 total number of orders during the passed 4 months. Near the end of this year we made Pele Prints official by registering the business, acquiring a GST number, and opening a business bank account. Recently we've been working on a new and organized desk for the printers and all the supplies.

In 2024, we would like to focus on marketing and getting Pele Prints name out to everyone. Our Instagram account will be getting some more attention. We will be posting more detailed information, reels, pictures, and behind the scenes. Our goal is to have a minimum of 20 orders per month (in the first quarter) and to get a third printer. We are eager to get some more products out to TW and all Toyota enthusiasts. Please feel free to message us with any ideas or products that you would like to see.

Thank you to all of our customers!

    Cheers,
    Dan

    NOTE:
Pele Prints will be closed for the holiday season.
Feel free to message or email us at peleprints3d@gmail.com for your orders.
All new orders will be fulfilled after the holiday break.
    Thank you for your understanding!

got some questions if anyone knows

    1. how’d you line up the side meshes to mark holes? I kind of let them sit, sprayed Gold Bond, then put a marker dot over that.
The thing is, it’s tricky to center. And I don’t know if it has to be. I kind of let them sit in gravity then marked. Not sure if that’s bad or will cause a rattle down the line.

    2. did anyone remove the wiper linkage? I probably will. Thing really blocks the driver area to put the mesh…

    3. anyone dealt with stock “trim” gap leak? The black factory plastic cowl piece basically. The long one.
Had my windshield replaced by a good glass shop who pointed out the gap and suggested it could be warped from age which I believe.
It looked installed properly, and I just took it back off and on again in a way I think is also proper. Yet there’s still a gap water would obviously sneak through.

gonna look up part number. Hopefully a new one would fit better, resolve the gap, and confirm the old one did in fact warp. After all, the truck is old, I’ve seen this type of stuff before on other cars. And it even lived in the desert with 110degF summer and beating sun.

edit: apparently there is a TSB for this advising to put a new cowl which looks expensive as hell. Must be some sort of high HP TRD Performance Cowl

I did not mark the holes. I put the screen in place and drilled the first hole with drill bit and then installed a screw to hold the screen in place. Then I used drill bit to drill other holes. Then I removed the screen, drilled the optional 2 in hole and then hit it with some paint. Then put everything back on. It was tedious but all screws are secure

I did not but was considering it. I did unhook wire that gives power to the wipers. I used a 90° drill bit attachment and drill bit extension. Without these I would not have been able to complete it on either side.

Yes I did. I noticed the same thing and tried a couple of times to get it secure but then realized that the little plastic clips that are there to hold it on tight were gone. I did a test and poured water onto the windshield and it went right through the little gap and into the new intake. I did not have it hooked up to the engine so I could see if any water came out and it did. I called Toyota and was quoted $550!
I did not want to spend that much so I did some searches for the best product to fix this and I put some of this silicone in the small channel that secures against the windshield.
    Screenshot_20240103_074708_Chrome.jpg
I then placed pieces 2x4 wood and stacked some weights on top of it to put pressure. I left it overnight. I did another test and it is completely waterproof and completely sealed.

Do you have any pictures of this gap?

Let me know if you have any more questions. Seems like you have the install figured out.

I mean regarding the side meshes, left and right
    underneath the cowl

there's wiggle room. During install. I haven't drilled the holes or screwed them it yet.
    basically an install question.
Does it matter where they're set? Like should I try to find a 360deg center point?
Or is it fine to just slap it in there, let it sit (due to gravity), then mark the holes

honestly, I think the stock cowl is bad new. And even worse with time due to heat, age, sun, deformation/warp. Have seen the same thing on other car cowls as well.

was at the dealer parts dept for something else. Asked them yo by any chance does the computer also reflect revisions, as it should
    Yes.
Makes sense. The above TSB is dated old.
They said as of today, there have been a total of 4 revision PN's, with the latest ending in 4. According to my VIN, an '08. Also around $320+ new for a piece of plastic.
    I believe 55708-04064

The gap is still small. So I'm not getting much water. Add the cowl shield I put from PELE which helps.
But ideally at some point I'll replace the bad original cowl with a gap, with a better current one that I'll assume is better design and resolves that gap.

Letting it site and drilling it in is perfect. Preferably you want it to cover up that corner hole as much as possible.

Hello @dpele , wondering if you can share the rubber grommet style you are using? Does it shroud around both sides of the sheet metal, is it more of a bulb seal type thing, is it just hard edge seal material? Hard to know from photos and I can make some guesses, but would be better to know for sure. I only ask as I've been following the other cowl intake megathread for a long time and the choice of gasket type seems important.

Also curious for anyone who has this kit if you've heard any rattles from the intake banging on the hole in the firewall or experienced any cracking on the sheet metal? I wouldn't expect it but have to ask. Not every day you cut a huge and somewhat permanent hole in your truck, and I've been on the fence about taking the plunge because of little things like this that can grow into bigger things.

Overall looks like a nice kit and I'll probably be ordering once I stop being a chicken. Thanks for making it and sharing with our community!

    Hi!
I use a rubber grommet with an inside groove. It fits the hole and pipe perfectly. The metal cowl sits in between the grommet grooves.

This this the best picture I have of it:
    upload_2024-1-22_8-21-38.png

There can be play between the hole and rubber grommet if the hole is drilled out slightly larger. It is best to drill the hole nice and slow.
If there is any play, one fix could be to use silicone between the grooves of the rubber grommet. Or perhaps a thin width of tape (electrical or similar) between the grooves of the rubber grommet.
The two kits I have installed have no play. Sometimes the pipe will squeak but some silicon lubrication fixes that right away.

Drilling a big hole like that is no joke! Scary, but it's like cliff jumping... just do it!!

Phew. Finally got one day off today I was finally able to completely finish the install. The got the re-designed part months ago.

Overall, since my last post on the install it has experienced snow, heavy rain, and dust in -14c to 20c. Id have to say I’m very pleased with the product and the design.
No FOD or liquid ingress into the cowl that would make a significant impact as compared to a snorkel or factory intake.

    10/10 Timbits.

Also updated my original posts photos.

Sounds good. I should go inspect my cowl cover first. But it's this or the C4 OTF guards. Haha. And this looks fun and affordable.
