Dwell first or timing first? It's been so long I can't remember.

Dwell first, then timing. Dwell changes timing, timing doesn’t change dwell.

I used to have an old GMC van that I took the engine cover off when I went through DEQ. I had the distributer a little loose so I could tweak it around to make it pass. Where they had it passing, it ran like a dog. As soon as went up the street, I put it back where it was so it ran decent again.

I used to advance the timing on my cars, which resulted in a bit better performance, sometimes at the slight expense of increased fuel consumption or needing higher octane gas.

I still have both the timing light and the Dwell meter. I have no idea why. Maybe just to look back at simpler times. Times when when I could do more than just change fluids, grease zerks and change plugs. Good times, just fooling around, changing timing, adjusting the carb (even when it didn't need it), rebuilding a carb, dream about a new cam shaft and talk endlessly, with friends, about cars and girls.

I did this to 1.8L air cooled VW motors. With dual carbs I got about 10mpg.

Remember when employers gave "sick days"?? I havent seen a sick day in 20 years. They combine "vacation" and "sick days" and call it PTO (personal time off). My former employer gave us all "unlimited PTO" that has to be approved by your supervisor and shopuld follow same parameters as the old plan.
Oh that's so generous, you might say. But it benefits the employer, so when you leave or they fire you, there is NO PTO to reconcile.

    I had a '66 Mustang, 289 ci, V-8, AT.
Only one set of points, but I did install a Mallory high tension coil. Remember the woodpecker decal too.

My place lets you earn up to 8 sick days a year (separate from vacation) but you're capped at 15 days.

Sucks for someone like me who rarely gets sick, much less sick enough to use it right off the bat versus make an effort at least.

Especially to see the same people white as a sheet one day, call in the next day, return the following day red as a lobster..hmmmm.

Really deincents me to hold onto the time and to be a trooper.

My company did that for some of the corporate offices. I still get paid and unpaid sick days on top of my vacation time.

Remember when employers used to give bonuses? company outings? Christmas parties?

I worked for IBM in the 70s and 80s, out of the Tampa, Florida office. I remember a couple of times they "rented" Busch Gardens. From around 5 or 6pm, the entire park was IBMers only. All rides, exhibits, etc. and dinner Included.

They also gave nice Christmas parties.
