Yes, that area. Not much space to put my hands in there to put on the metal zip ties.

I bought the OEM tailgate lock, price was reasonable and the install was easy plug and play. Routing the cable was a bit annoying, but really not too difficult. I find it to be extremely convenient, and am really glad I have it. I also have the SabelleCo anti theft device. Both have been on my truck for a few years now and work perfectly. I would 100% buy both again if I had a do-over. The OEM tailgate lock would probably be my first mod if I was starting over with a new truck and it was not factory installed.

I did. I was laying on my back while I was doing it. Between the frame and the muffler there wasn’t much room for my hands and arms.

True…….some have tried it from the wheel well, and that’s worse.

thread title asks my honest thoughts.

i think it's a waste of money. my bed's empty other than a few ratchet straps. if i'm carrying anything, it's normally scrap, or free and going to the thrift store, so they can have it.

I'm the same, but like mentioned, imagine coming out see your tailgate stolen...

i've got a hose clamp on it to keep it from being a walk-up issue. after that, they need it more than i do, it's why i carry full coverage.

A friend smashed his tailgate backing into a fence post. He looked for a new tailgate for three months…….no one could get one. He found a used one in Texas and had it shipped.

Pop&lock isn’t too much ($150). You need a cover to make it worth it. I carry things I don’t want to get wet or lose so a locked tailgate is needed. The new Pop&lock looks like a plug and play, no wire cutting.
My concern is removing battery power while doing this.
What is at risk removing and not removing power?

That’s a little more than what I paid for the oem parts so my tailgate locks with the doors.

I did not disconnect my battery when I installed the OEM Tailgate Lock.

That was almost 2 years ago...no problems.

This is not a dig or a challenge, but how is this an inconvenience? You approach the truck and push unlock on the FOB. Everybody unlocks: front doors, rear doors, tailgate. Lower the tailgate: load: drive away. (if needed: 50% of the time I just throw things in the bed from the push cart over the side unless they weigh 100 lbs, or its lumber, or a junk run: then the tailgate comes down.) Drive away. Park for the night, push the lock on the FOB, everything locks and the truck is safe for the night. I wish my truck had a remote tailgate lock on the FOB. Vehicles I have had going back to the early 2000's all had a remote trunk lock/unlock button.
