any thoughts on where to start looking for the cause ?
Filled up yesterday thinking I still had more fuel . I put 15.5 gallons in . Probably not too far off the 1/4 mark but it never returned to the full mark after several ignition on off tries .
I recorded the mileage and will try to run tank as low as I can in case I have to drop it .
I can't believe Toyota didn't include a trip odometer in this truck !

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Either the float is physically stuck or the resistor on the float is open allowing only what you see to show

The sending unit is going to need come out .

Might think of a new pump as well.

I just lived with mine just filled up every 100 miles for a few years.

    Agree.

I had a tercel wagon that was the same. Filled up every 300kms, 200 in the winter haha.

I was afraid of that, hence a trip odometer would come in real handy now .
    thanks nonetheless

    Clock Volt meter/LSPV Delete/Hyundai 16’s/FP gauge/after 9months of wrenching ZERO oil leaks
    Not this is the fix
But might work, and then u can confirm the issue

just got SB installed on my car(not the Taco)
    At shop for months
    Got car back
    Took trip…..fuel gauge reading 3/4th’s
On the trip, felt a pause/cut out of engine….2mins later
On side of rd….trying to diagnose what just happened

eventually, got to tapping FP and sender covers with wrench I had
Looked at instrument cluster after tapping…..
Fuel gauge now read E and low fuel lite on
Paid wrecker/tow truck driver to take me to gas station

what I’m saying smack your tank with a rubber mallet
The sender might drop giving u a new reading from your F gauge

Appears for my situation, bc car sitting for so long, sender float connection stuck on level sensor
Same reasoning could apply to yours
