Hello everyone I’m new to Tacoma ownership and just purchased a 2007 prerunner access cab back in November for $10,500 with 261k miles. Truck has been in Souther California all of its life according to Carfax service history. I have done all basic services as fluids, sparkplugs, serpentine belt. Truck starts strong every single time and the 4.0 l V6 pulls strong. However I have some concerns and want to keep the truck “tip top” can you please provide feedback regarding frame, don’t know if it is surface level rust or more serious, also when it’s cold in the morning before starting truck coolant fluid tends to be halfway lower. And I checked the motor oil and it seems like it burned a bit. Using Mobil one full synthetic 10-30 2300 miles since last oil change. Also should I start thinking about changing the water pump so I can prevent a leak and head gasket overheating issues in the future? Any feedback and tips are much appreciated. Update: I think I just saw a small leak by oil pan. Cheers from LA!
    Ron

    Rust looks fine.
Spray some fluid film on your frame.

Coolant is fine, it’s normal for liquids to expand when they get hot.

I would use 5w-30 Mobil 1. That’s what it calls for in the manual. They make a high mileage version.

thank you! That’s a piece of mind! I just see some dry coolant outside reservoir so I’m thinking hose is brittle due to age. I’ll take a pic of coolant level in the morning before cold start

yeah coolant is fine, just a little evaporation leftovers. The rust is all surface there I wouldnt worry about it. Maybe put a small 1/4in ratchet on the bolts of the lower oil pan to snug them up and see if your leak goes away, but I wouldnt make it too big of an issue unless it really starts dripping everywhere.

No dripping everywhere, I’ll tighten the oil pan up and see how it goes, the rust was concerning me. Thanks for the feedback. Want the truck to run at least another 100k miles.
    cheers
