My 2006 Tacoma brake upgrade (EDITED!!)

Good detail to know for those embarking on this mod. I must have inadvertently did things in the right order then.

 

Now its beginning to sound like its a hit and miss situation. Personally i removed my abs module altogether...so its not an issue now.

Just completed my pedders rear disk brake conversion, changed out the master cylinder for the disc brakes, and bled, never touched the ABS module. Brakes are very firm, no sponginess.

 

We just got in more adapter brake line sets (both M10 and M12)

Yep...I don't stock the master cylinders anymore because the last one sat on the shelf for almost a year, but the lines are good to go. Also have stock length SS line sets to replace the factory rubber flex hoses...haven't got those up on the site yet, been busy. Let me know if you're up for those too.

Just got mine done.

For anyone that’s done a rear disc conversion, and bought the SOS performance master cylinder kit for your Tacoma booster, that mc will NOT fit the tundra booster. The tundra booster does not plunge far enough into the mc.

I'm glad I saw this before starting the install. I also have the SOS tundra MC kit. And was planning to use it with the tundra booster upgrade.

This is the MC that came with the SOS kit. Looks like what you got that you say doesn't plunge far enough.

What master cylinder did you end up using? Year/model vehicle of the MC application?

 

Yeah the one you have for sure will not work.

I ended up just buying a tundra MC from AutoZone. 2012.

 

I'm ready to start this mod and I just got MC and brake booster from tundra, I was reading somewhere mc tacoma use m10 brake line and tundra mc use m12 brake line but when I'm check my 2015 tacoma mc brake line is m12.... when the tacoma mc brake line change from m10 into m12?
That's mean I just need adapter m12 brake line from tundra mc into tacoma brake line right.

 

Nice upgrade,but hardly worth the cost and time for just a little better braking.

Regardless if you want to upgrade to BBK system, you will be required to upgrade the MC and Master booster too so I will find out the real deal about this mod myself.

 

After collecting all parts and clean it up make it look nice finally I did it this mod today but unfortunately I'm running out of time so continue tomorrow for the bleeding all line, hope everything run smooth.

 

Just finish up with bleeding line and test drive. I don't know why I have to pump twice or 3 times when I press the pedal brake... I make sure no more air when I bleeding the line.
What is the symptoms bad MC or Booster Brake?

 

Did you bench bleed the master cylinder? Also you may need to continue to bleed a fair bit to get all the air out of the abs module.

 

You right... I just bought big jar brake fluid and bleeding all four wheels again until it is clear the bubble and finish 1 big jar and everything back to normal.

I feel it a lot different between oem tacoma with this mod, definitely worth the hassle.

 

Nice. Happy it worked. Be mindful the abs module is a pain and technically needs a computer to properly bleed. If you start getting crappy pedal feel again that may be the cause. Unless you have the computer to do so, a trip to a shop may be needed.
