Yea I have the same ideas. No need to race. Just not to die.
Any plans on doing some kind of headliner? Or just leave it bare?

My driver side carpet was cut out over a year ago while chasing a water leak (still havent found it...). I'm thinking of putting in astro turf once I have the cage in.

Tell me about the storage bin behind the shifters just in front of the arm rest.

Have you guys done or seen fill plate along the roof section between the tubing? I miss having a headliner to block out the summer heat. I have kilmat already. Think basikbiker did Aluminum, but plastic might insulate better and be a bit more quiet.

Might be harder to find now because it’s made in Russia
But noico red is the thermal barrier you add, killmat is mostly just sound/vibe

Morgan Clark did a video about this and RJ Fab has at least one video on it too - plastic would be easier to make fit the curves of a roofline for anyone without metal shaping experience and tools.

I doubt I need some fancy stuff from Russia, but good idea. Probably just jam some carpet insulation between my plastic fill plate and kilmat.

I'll have to search that. I prefer not to get into bead rolling. Plastic just sounds like an easier solution. Plus it can match my black tubing better.

Bottom layer is the normal sound deadener everyone uses
The top layer is noico red
It used to be on Amazon but ever since the conflict kicking off it’s been out of stock

    Yes
The easiest DIY would be to weld on trick tabs to use as mounting points ie: 3 tabs in each triangle of your cage and then have individual fill panels between each tube mounted with nice hardware ie: fender washers & counter sunk allens. You could have better insulation / heat control behind each panel

Contouring or bending plastic would not be fun, aluminum would be much easier.

Another method is to glue layers of foam directly to the roof and then glue upholstery directly to that. You start with a thicker light open cell foam then finish with thinner closed cell foam which you can actually block sand to smooth out and shape.

Really depends on what your cage looks like.

IC. It's a brand of insulated filling. I'll look for it, but I bet I'll need to look for an equivalent.

The individual panels sound like my best option. I'll do a double check to see if I need to do a bend. My only bends are right at the a pillar and windshield crossbar. It definitely would be a bear to bend plastic nicely. I was just afraid of aluminum in case it rattles like hell at certain engine frequencies. Guess I could kilmat it too if I get some horrible vibes.

Edit: crap, probably need to make a bend.
    Guess it's aluminum.

I’d make storage that locks around the bend to the top of the windshield and is hidden by some Sun visors - you could make a piece that goes straight to the bend and meets up with a horizontal piece that is the front of the storage boxes. Making pieces like whats at the very back of the cab on the MCD1 video is similar to what I’m thinking. Once I see stuff like that I have to do it - no wonder why I’m still working on the driveway ornament lol

Kinda a stretch, but anyone know of a place that could build a race spec cage in California? Willing to travel

You want to race or drive hard - @Airdog posted pictures of his TE Designs cage and they’re making a double cab version in the near future I think.

That's wild. I don't have MCD hand skills or that level of patience. 5 individual panels would be my skill level.

I did my whole cab with normal butyl/foil backed then put closed cell butyl backed over it. Very similar to what you posted.
