Speedometer Recalibration???

I have called all 3 Toyota Dealers in Knoxville and all of them say they cannot do this...I added 3" lift and put larger tires on and my speedometer is off, does anyone know who I can call to fix this issue? I also tried Firestone but they dont do this either...1 toyota dealer says it cannot be done at all, but this cant be true? thanks.

 

Hypertech makes a box for it or you can use a Dakota Digital box. They hypertech is plug and play where the Dakota Digital requires figuring it out on your own.

 

I have a 3 in lift running 285s and my speedo is the same...and I just regeared yesterday so it should still be the same

 

how do you regear, my speedo is off a little bit but i dont want my odometer to be off?

 

Its all fly-by-wire these days, no more gears and cables. There is a sensor that sends the data to the ECU which displays the data on your odometer/speedometer.

Devices like a ScanGauge can be calibrated for tire size adjustments so you get an accurate speed reading and for calculating fuel mileage but not much you can do with the odometer accuracy.

At least with bigger tires the odo being off is in your favor. Bigger tires make it read low.

 

do you know how much your speedo is off? Use a GPS to verify. You might be surprised, larger tires may have actually corrected a speedometer that was running too fast.

No....not necessarily. The speedometer on the dash is not accurate.

That doesn't mean, the ECM isn't accurate.

I have a Scanguage which displays actual speed from the ECM directly. It matches the GPS. My speedo (on the dash) is 2mph fast. The ECM is accurate but the speedo on the dash isn't calibrated properly.

Jeeps (atleast the older ones) can swap out their speedo gears - but Toyotas, you can't.

 

but how easy is it to install and scanguage...not the mounting part, that is easy....what exactly does it hook up to and where is that located? thanks.

It's simple - hooks up to your OBD port. OBD port is located under the dash near the steering wheel. This is where I have my scangauge mounted...


Do some research on the forum. There's a lot of different places people have these mounted. There's another product that's similar - called Ultragauge. I'm not familiar with that but again....search the forum, the info is out there.

 

hey man. i think there is a place in maryville or south knox (don't quote me on ether) did you call fox in clinton? jw and i think i heard of a place out west or something. idk.. any ways. if you don't mind me asking what aria of knox you in? im up by Norris like 0.5 miles. i hope to be getting tacoma in the next few weeks. we looked at one at toyota of knox it was '07 trd off road with like 24'800 miles we are thinking about going back and getting it... idk. i kinda hope.
