Valid points. Likely helps that several of my friends are rider's coaches for the state MSF programs and have tired to recruit me to become a trainer. I've taken more than a few people out for their "first" real motorcycle ride and I'm keenly aware of making that experience a good one. Young lady next door to me has grown up watching me come and go on bikes and I was privileged enough to take her for her first ride as soon as she was big enough to reach the foot pegs. She later told her parents that once she was old enough to drive she didn't want a car she wanted a bike, LOL. Her parents are nice folks and told her that was open for discussion but whatever bike she wanted to purchase I was going to be the one to approve or disapprove on their behalf.

I'm a huge proponent of rider training. Learn the right way, not the hard way. Motorcycles don't tolerate fools for long. they have a harsh way of teaching lessons.

My exes and my girl all know that if I'm physically able I'm going to ride. My girlfriend goes on rides with me occasionally, but as we age she doesn't enjoy it as much. But she just tells me to go ahead and go for a ride, she knows how much I enjoy it and doesn't try to stop me from riding, or anything else for that matter.

I have an X-wife that gave me "the" ultimatum once, my FJ1100 or her. The FJ outlasted her by 23 years, I miss that bike....

just a couple of things tbh
valid but she does work at a hostpital and sees it all the time on people getting injured and death from accidents so she has her own point but that is his life and tbh that bike hasnt moved in over 10 years so i doubt he is super into it anymore but would like to get it going for one last ride and most likely ditch it.

the girl im talking with wants to ride but she wants to ride dirtbikes so she doesnt stop me she just dosent want me on a 4cly screamer which i can understand since im kinda the one if i paid for the speedo imma use the whole speedo kinda thing or test it and wonder how fast does this go... ive already told my self before her id never own something like that since i dont trust my self.
haha true! but thankfully neither one has given us a us or the bike thing since as i stated above the one im talking to wants to ride she just isnt sure about on the street yet.

    This.

No problems expressing concern for ones safety, but to get pissed at wanting to do something fun and perfectly legal with protective gear etc, there should be support as with anything in a relationship.

Absolutely. My wife would actually ride with me back in the day. And these days I hurt myself more in the woods on 2 wheels than I ever did on the street.

Yup. It's in the same vain as if you love ice fishing. Sure, idiots fall in and drown or freeze every year. Doesn't mean that's what will happen to a well prepared and cautious participant of the sport. The thing that irritates me about it is that I'm not an idiot. I am cautious. I wear my gear, and I don't push the limit. I ride completely legal, and I am very slow to expand my comfort zone on stuff. I'm not a 19 year old dipshit who thinks he's invincible who is buying a 180 MPH rocket with no training.

Not directed at anyone here who was a 19 year old dipshit who thought they were invincible and bought a 180 MPH rocket with no training. :p

Then he needs to ask her if she sees people come in from car accidents. Is he allowed to drive? FFS, it's such an anecdotal thing to say "well I saw a guy who wrecked his bike in the ER and it was awful." Sure. Lots of idiots do stupid things. That's like not wanting somebody to have a firearm because somebody they don't know showed up at the ER with a bullet wound. So silly.

Oh for sure. I just mean that if I were in that situation and my buddy was grousing about it to me, that is the line of thinking I'd be in. Absolutely zero interest being involved in the middle of other people's marital/dating drama. That shit is their problem, not mine. Don't ask me unless you want me to call both of you out for being dumbasses about stuff.

I made the mistake of giving up motorcycles, and I kick myself for it. I'd be a much better rider, and probably already have something like a Super Tenere if I had stuck with it. Instead I'm an old guy just getting back on a bike and starting over.

I'm the opposite. More pavement than dirt. I am kind of glad that my road is what it is though, because that made me start looking at adv bikes and those are the posture that I prefer. Cruisers feel sketchy to lean to me, and I feel cramped on a sport tourer. Well, on the one sport tourer I sat on (an FJR1300 :sorry: @BkerChuck ) I felt cramped. I don't like the pegs being back and the forced forward lean. I could absolutely get used to it though, whereas a cruiser is not gonna happen for me. The one thing I did like on my VTX was the heel toe shifter. Made for a very lazy and easy cruise.... as long as I didn't have to corner at speed. LOL

everyone has their own thing they like. i love to explore and go places you cant normally easily get to so dirt is something that always gets my attention. main reason i like dual sports/dirtbikes /adventure bikes. but i dislike that all 3 of these are taller lol and im short haha so no adventure bikes for me for being to tall and heavy so that leaves dual sports which area great but can be a bit heavy for trails and moving the bike around so that then leaves true dirtbikes which id really like lol. i do want a more street capable bike but thats mainly for commuting and riding with my buddy on longer distances since the old klx aint to comfy

No offense taken. It's like a former coworker used to tell me, "It would be a boring world if everyone liked chocolate". As much as I love the FJR platform each of mine has had adjustments made to make them fit me just a little bit better. Different seats and windscreens almost immediately then fine tuning the little stuff to make it as close to perfect as possible.

I've ridden bikes with a heel/toe shifter. Hate them.....with a passion. Can't comfortably ride any bike with forward controls. I place too much value on handling and being able to smoothly ride twisties and bikes like the VTX really aren't built for that. When I worked for a Harley dealership I rode lots of different bikes, HD and other brands. For me one of the worst was a Heritage Softail. Had to take one hone once while my bike was in for service. Handlebars felt like a rototiller, foot boards that I drug just getting onto the highway, seat not comfortable for me at all. I waited on dozens of customer that owned that exact bike and loved it. I think I would have turned it down if offered one for free.

Guy i bought my super tenere from was 5ft 3.... just saying.

But also I feel ya. My Kitted up CA Plated WR450F is not necessarily a light dirtbike (probably close to 280-285lbs), I would LOOOOVE something like a KTM Freeride 250R, but almost all of my riding of the dirtbike has some sort of "need to hop on a street to connect the trails" aspect to it and not being plated makes things a pain in the ass around these parts.
