It’s true though, I don’t have to drive often or long distances so my changes are based on the “Or 12 months” part in the warranty and maintenance guide. I may have left that part out haha. ;)

Ok, thanks to @Buttskevin21 I now have two motors in the Ram, a 6.7 Cummins and a 2GR-FKS!

    taco_motor.jpg

Hope to start the process of getting it back in the Taco this week.

Hopefully the sensors on the intake manifold will the be the only ones I keep from my original motor, we'll bolt the whole old manifold on, so the computer doesn't have much to learn off the new motor. This is handy because the hoisting point we'll use if the one we fabbed up to pull the motor originally.

    NICE and good luck!

I am curious, you said you mentioned this problem to the dealer. What was their response?
As mentioned by someone else; I would also be concerned, if they did this to you,,,, you are not the only one, as I think we all can agree, this didn't happen over one or two oil changes.

They just said according to their records they did oil changes. How would you prove if they did or didn't change the oil filter? Dunno.

Maybe if you only take it to the dealer and never have you or your mechanic work on it they would be more likely to warranty something, but I'd bet you'd save the difference in cost anyway even if they occasionally warrantied something. Plus it's a pain in the butt to get into the dealer. They make all their money on service and financing, not selling trucks, so you're betting against the house.

We also might not need a forum if we trusted the dealer 100%.

If I were litigious there could certainly be a path forward being nasty with the dealer, but I'd much rather have my truck back and go to work and make up the difference by, oh, working!

The patient getting ready to go in:

    motorhoist1.jpg

The part where you hope your chain holds!

    hoistmotor2.jpg

Note the strap you can hold on to guide the motor as it's lowered.

    motorstrap.jpg

Got it sort of sitting on the motor mounts now, note the re-use of the removal bracket thing we made out of scrap steel and rebar.

    motorhook.jpg

You have to snake the big fat end of the wiring harness back through the big hole in the firewall to inside your glove box, or where the glovebox WAS, since you have to pull it apart to get to the computer and all the little connectors.

You can kind of get the motor to sit on the motor mounts, but really you still need to wiggle it around to get the accessories like a/c pump hooked up, and the torque converter in the transmission to mate up to the bolts in a way that you can tighten them. We'll probably use a couple jacks to move the back of the transmission up and down until things align.

The nice thing is all the oil (Mobil 1 0-20W synthetic 6.1 quarts, so 7) and a NEW Napa oil filter and that red Zerex anti-freeze 2 gallons were about $50.

We tried to blow through the new oil filter element and there was little resistance. The old one you can't even hardly blow through at all, wish I could find a data code on the old one, pretty sure it has not been changed in a loooooong time, if ever.

parts guy said the red is undiluted, then gets pink as you dilute it? Dunno, he thought it was the right stuff. It'll be a bit before I'm adding coolant, but good to know now if I got the wrong stuff.

The Toyota branded product isn't all that expensive at the parts counter, it comes pre mixed, 2 gallons will do the job.

Good to see this project headed in the right direction.

    Yeah.
Seems you should be fine with red, just not orange or green. Seems the pink is just supposed to last longer than the red and is pre-diluted.

Antifreeze / Coolant - Red, Pink, Green ???

That Zerex is pink. It is spesific for Toyotas and other brands that uses that type of antifreeze. I use it.

Lots of colors out there. I would not trust the longevity claims if you want to get the most out of your radiator and water pump.

If you’re adding water to the coolant……use distilled

I’ll give ya a pat on the back for handling this so well. I believe my head would have exploded and I would have been knee deep in the dealers arse.

    Well done Sir
