A dealership in my state is showing 41 2024's on their website. Out of the 3 closest dealers to me one only shows and and its just 4. Not sure what the one showing 41 is doing.

No, none of those in OR I dont think. Capitol Toyota down in Salem.

Edit: They are just showing everything they have allocated/in build. Some showing ETA's of April and what not. I don't think any dealers in OR have one on the lot yet, but I could be wrong. I am after a Tundra so don't search for Tacomas much.

I don't know why they can't resolve the day/night mode on the screen. My 2014 dims the screen during the day when you turn on the head lamps for bad weather. (like today: snow). Sure, you can slog through the menus to change it but it's a PIA. My 2010 Buick used the sun-sensor on the upper dash to adjust it accordingly and it was also tied to the dimmer to match the rest of the panel and gauges. You could also manually select day/night mode if you wanted to. I don't think ever had the need to manually adjust it.

Even my old Nuvi GPS switches from white background to dark background automatically according to sunset/sunrise times, and it will also change when you enter a tunnel.

More and more people driving means more less capable drivers getting cars. Many other developed countries have a much lower car penetration rate. Aging population is correct as a cause as you stated.

Probably all allocations. Take a look at the VINs and see if there are any letters in the last 6 digits. If so then they haven't been built yet but have been allocated to the dealers. I am near the largest dealer in TN and they have like 2 allocations....not sure why when smaller dealers have a lot more.

Agree 100% that they are designed to charge more. I think some of the add ons are useful but not all. I knew it was over allocated from what I would order but I wanted a loaded OR model in Silver and SofTex. Hopefully every one finds "their" options. I put a deposit down on an OR with a $8860 Premium Package from the factory and $2861 in distributor added accessories. Spray in bed liner, dash cam and predator drop steps were overpriced, but I would have likely ordered them.

But with Auto transmission, the SR has the lesser engine. Also has rear leaf springs. Both of which could be seen as a plus if you want a robust basic truck, but need to go up to SR5 to get both of those, approx. $42K with no options and you know how that works with allocations, near impossible to get that truck. For me, the SR5 was the lowest trim I would consider, want the engine oomph for towing and do not want the MT, wife can't drive MT.

The 14" screen DOES automatically go into night mode.... in fact, it is too sensitive. Just driving under an overpass will cause mine to switch, and then immediately switch back. It is the exact opposite of my Corvette that has far too much delay built in. On that car when I back out of my garage the reverse cam is almost useless until the thing finally switches to day mode which takes about 10 seconds.

The "problem" on the 14" in Tundra is the color *theme* in the day where it uses white background for everything. That is fine for maps, but I prefer dark background for the audio and such. You can't have both, but you can manually lock in night mode if you want but then the maps also have the dark background in the day.

The Pioneer NEX I had in my old Tacoma had black background for the audio and used whatever background was called for in each app depending on day or night mode. That's how I wish Toyota would set these up. But, no.

from a different perspective; I wouldn’t blame an aging population. If this is a recent trend take a look at those 3 states. These are the states Californians and New Yorkers flocked to during the pandemic. And we’re talking young professionals. Coincidentally, these people never drove a car before because they relied heavily on public transportation. If you don’t live near NYC (especially) I don’t think you understand just how true this is. Anyway, Now these people in states where they have to drive and trust me…they suck at it.

They are for sure allocations. I didn’t mean to imply they had them. I only mentioned it because no other dealers were listing theirs. They decided to go nuts and list every single one they could. I’m kind of surprise most don’t do this. Makes it easier on customers to figure out what they have coming down the pike.

The screen remains pretty functional whilst underway. For instance, with Google Maps you can zoom, select from saved or recent destinations, select home, do a voice search which works really well, or exit the route. The only thing that gets locked out is the keyboard for manual entry. You will need to stop to do that. You had better be stopped to do that.

LOL... I just stopped by my local dealer to check on a backordered part for my Tundra. This dealer has a fair number of Tacomas in the Toyota inventory listing...of course allocations and none were on the lot. Salesman said maybe March, which is about when my part is due to land.

    yea for sure.
Florida is pretty bad aside from Tampa. They have some pretty good bike lanes. Tucson kinda does but tucson also suffers from the worst drivers I’ve ever experienced and the added effect of the Mexican drivers (relax … if you’ve lived there…you know). I’ve also lived in New Mexico but down south where there wasn’t a lot of traffic. So I’m not sure about ABQ, although Santa Fe was ok.

Trust me when i say they are still flocking to Florida in droves and it wasn't directly due to the pandemic. Southern hospitality is eroding fast.
