I’ve always been happy with my care at the VA. Seems like a well run organization from my perspective.

    ^^^^ This :)

Thank you all for the continued support.

On a brighter note, my last employer operated on a fiscal year of October 1 - September 30. Therefore, when I got laid off on October 17, I had been an employee for the entirety of their fiscal year 2023. Which meant that I qualified for the full fiscal year 2023 annual bonus, which they give out in mid-December. The annual target is 8% of your annual salary, dependent on several factors related to the company's revenue/profits for the fiscal year, etc.. I remember seeing emails sent from the CEO's office in early October stating the company had done much better than expected, blah blah, but no actual numbers, or how it might affect the bonus. That info came out after I was gone. So, I did some quick math, and was expecting a certain amount from this bonus. Come mid-December, I was checking my bank account online, and I see this unexpectedly large deposit from the employer. I naturally thought they had goofed, and when they realized it, they would take the money back. I had to wait almost two weeks to get the hard copy of the pay slip, and when I did, I was quite shocked. All that money was legit. Turns out the annual bonus for 2023 was almost 14%, not the 8% I had been expecting.

Also, our creditors have been extremely helpful, I called each of them and explained I lost my job, and asked if they have any sort of hardship payment deferral scenario. Turns out, all of them do, and so I have been able/will be able to defer a payment here and there if needed, if we get close to the end of the money and I still haven't found a job.

The only thing that makes me a bit nervous is our health insurance. My former employer gave me 3 months of our insurance where they would continue to subsidize it at the same rate as when I was their employee, and after that (January 31 2024), it would fall under COBRA, and I would have to pay the full amount myself. The $511 a month for the subsidized rate was bad enough, but I am not going to keep the coverage under COBRA, as that rate is $2600/month for my wife and I. My wife will still have her Medicare coverage due to her full disability status, but I won't have any coverage until I start a new job. Will be keeping my fingers crossed I don't get sick or injured during that period :fingerscrossed:o_O
