If we don't have a group already, I will volunteer to be the group leader :rofl:Even before I got my Engineering degree, I would overthink things to death. For example, in High School, anytime I decided I was going to ask a girl for a date, I would try to imagine EVERY possible scenario as to how it might happen. On the Quad at lunch? In the hallway between classes? After school? What exactly would I say?........ Endless rehearsal. And of course when I finally did go up to her and ask, I stumbled all over myself verbally, and came out sounding like a babbling idiot :duh: But that has been typical of my entire life. The overthinking, and babbling idiot parts :anonymous:

I have never even looked into getting into the VA healthcare system, as I have always had other coverage through employers. Ironically enough, a year so back, I posted a question, I think in the Military forum here, asking about what, if any costs there might be to get into the VA coverage, in the event that I ever lost my job, so that I could be sure to have healthcare coverage during a period of unemployment. In light of the fact that tomorrow is my last day being covered by my recent employer's insurance..... I may have to revisit the VA option.

As of right now, I have 91 applications submitted, and the only contact so far was that job offer that got rescinded. Haven't heard from anyone else yet. Of those 91, 11 were within the last week, as companies have been posing a lot of new positions since the start of the year, as I had suspected would happen, so things are off to hopeful start this year.

I have been mostly happy with The VA in San Diego. La Jolla clinics and Hospital are associated with UCSD. My Cancer care there has been excellent as well as visits to Oceanside and Kerney Mesa clinics. The Escondido clinic not so happy with.

Couple of weeks ago I was on a call with UCSD, my name was given out as a reference by a vendor. The vendor asked me first if it was OK to do so. During the call it came up that I was stationed in San Diego, a long time ago. Somehow the train got off the tracks and we talked about San Diego (and how much it has changed) but they did go with the vendor from my understanding. Wham Bam Mam all the way to Escondido, sorry long story LOL. It was the 70's.

Couple of years ago went through the VA disability for hearing loss. 20 years in the Engine and boiler room of ships will do that to you. Only took me until 25 years after I retired from the Navy to apply, hey I'm not a damn sick bay commando! They denied everything except for 10% tinnitus, one reason I never went through the process, especially now days they deny, deny, deny.

It does open some doors for me in the VA system and I did get hearing aids through them for free because it is disability connected. The VA center is an hour and a half away and was booked for months so they outsourced me to a local hearing aid company that is top rated. Same aids my mother has and she pays $6K for. But other things I would have to pay because coverage is based on income and apparently I make too much money to qualify for much of a discount.

I work at Mayo Clinic and watched them save my youngest son's life at least 4 times when he had advanced stage IVB cancer. It was almost 2 years of hell watching him go though it but he is in remission now. Probably one of the few places in the world that could pull it off and save him. Still working so still have Mayo Clinic as primary and only insurance now that Tricare dropped me at 65 and I don't qualify for Tricare for Life until I stop working for good. Given the choice of Mayo Clinic or VA, well really not much of a decision to make.

I wish you well and remission free FOREVER! UCSD seemed to really have it together at least the folks I talked to did.

You could also inquire of insurance companies to purchase something as an individual. Can't speak to rates but odds are cheaper than COBRA, even if you get a bare bones thing. I don't deal with that part of the business but I've been doing insurance over 2 decades now.

Speaking of insurance and medical costs… I went to the doctor, yesterday and she wants to introduce a new medication into the mix. Rx is… 2,345.35. Yes, that’s correct - 2,400 for one medication. Needless to say I’ve called to see if there’s something a bit more cost friendly.
