My 2022 Tacoma Safety Connect free trial has expired. I can't see paying every month so I can check the air pressure of my tires on my cell phone. Does anyone know if the crash detector notification feature truly disconnects? I can see the push button SOS feature disconnecting, but I just don't see Toyota receiving then purposely ignoring an airbag deployed notification. Anyone have experience with this? Like had a major wreck after the SOS service expired?

You’re asking if TSS is disabled after the trial period of the Toyota connect stuff is up?

My SOS button was still green for a few days after it expired. It's just off now. Not sure about the rest of it. I'll consider resubscribing if the app gets a complete overhaul... it's a piece of shit...

Specifically, would a significant crash that would trigger a crash detected communication not be acted on by Toyota after the expiration of the Toyota Safety Connect subscription?

I would assume it just doesn't phone home at all anymore. Likely they just won't see the crash rather than just ignore it.

    This is just a guess...

I agree. I assume there is a cost on the Toyota side to maintain the GPS service of connecting to the truck that is built into the cost of the purchase of it for the first year. After that, if you aren't paying, then Toyota isn't maintaining that connection anymore.

The door unlock could be useful if you lose the fob a few hundred miles from home.

Most (all?) of the features are useful in certain scenarios. that wasn't really the question though.

I know trying trying to point out some positives since most people crap on the service. If people are really worried about having sos and are outdoors a lot just buy a garmin (or other gps) with sos basic service is slightly more that toyota connect. It's more reliable than toyota connect as toyota is cell based. They will assist with anything it's not just for hiking mishaps.

That SOS button isn't like dialing 911 on a deactivated cellphone. Once the service is dropped the signal to disconnect the service happens.

    A bit off topic:

My subscription has run out and I opted to only keep paying for the remote start/doors only (need this for works due to the distance and I like it). After I did this the person on the other end of the line can't hear me when I make a call through Apple Car Play but I can hear them. I have heard the mic runs through the SOS button and that it needs to show a green light for it to work. Any truth in that? I have currently disconnected the negative to see if that corrects the issue.

I've always wondered what happens when you hit the sos without current service. You'd think it would send you to the call center for them to ask you to renew your subscription. When I first got my truck I used that function to set up everything talking to the agent setting up my emergency contact.

Never had an issue making calls through car play and I don’t have any of the services. I was paying for the lock/unlock feature and remote start, but the app is so slow it would take longer than just me grabbing the keys and unlocking it. But as for everything else, it all works as normal even without the subscriptions

Thank you for that. Removing the negative on the battery corrected the issue. Must have been coincidental but it was the first time I've had an issue making a call.
