Hello everyone, I'm new to this community.
I just recently bought a 2011 Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road base model. When I bought the vehicle, it didn't have keyless entry. I did some searching around but couldn't find the answer to my problem. How do I add keyless entry?
After doing some looking around on the vehicle, I noticed it was wired for an anti-theft system, but it didn't seem to function. I also noticed a cable in my glove box and thought, maybe by installing the door control module it would allow me to have keyless entry. Does the keyless entry only work if I have a functioning anti-theft system? What, parts do I need to make the Anti-theft system work? and will it allow me to have keyless entry?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update: I don't think the vehicle has the ignition key amplifier. Is this something I can add that will solve my issue?

The antitheft (Immobilizer) and remote keyless entry are 2 separate and unrelated systems.

To add remote keyless entry the truck must already have power locks and the connector for the Door Control Reciever behind the glove box, if it does then it's just a matter of getting a Door Control Reciever and the key fobs that match it then installing it and going through the steps to program the fobs.

There's several threads about it if you poke around.

    Dm93,
I saw this thread; I bought a receiver off eBay for about 120$. I installed the door control module and tried to program it again. To program the fob, all the videos discussed having to insert the key into the ignition, open and close the doors, etc. Due to the absence of a chime when inserting the key, I thought the two had to be connected. Is there some other way of programming the key fob that only a locksmith or Toyota dealer can do?

That's an issue with the key in (Unlock Warning) switch in the lock cylinder, you have to have that working before your gona be able to program fobs.

Update: I saw your other thread on the Unlock warning switch problem.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/remotes-stopped-working-chime-key-ignition.751304/

I did those steps, and it seems the unlock switch works. With the key out and the door ajar, the door locks and stays locked. With the key in the acc position the door locks and then unlocks. I believe you said in that thread, that the key-in beeper is in the combination meter. Does the key-in beeper control the programming even though it's a separate part from the unlock switch?
Also, if the key-in beeper controls the programming, do I need to replace my instrument cluster?

What about if the key is inserted but the ignition is off?

With the key just inserted and the ignition off (in the lock position), the door locks and stays locked.

Then the switch isn't working properly, it's probably the switch itself but your gona have to get into the column and see.

    Thank you,
I will take a look tonight and see if it's a problem with the switch.

    Update:
I just took apart the steering column and looked at the switch. There was no noticeable damage. I did notice the lock cylinder itself seems to be loose. However, I also noticed, that when I got in the car and pressed on the lock with the key in the lock position, while also pressing the key towards the engine, the doors locked and unlocked. I.e. the same issue TnShooter had in the aforementioned thread.

I have yet to have to deal with mine, it still works like it's supposed to but it seems to be a fairly common issue.
I'm not sure if it's due to wear in the lock cylinder or the switch itself.

Using a newer key resolved my issue.
My key was so worn it was loose in the ignition.
