I recently bought a 2024 GR Corolla. We'll call it a "late life crisis" car. Hey, I sold the Harley over a year ago and got an adrenaline itch I had to scratch :D.

The technology in this car is unbelievable for an affordable street car. If you're not familiar, it's a 1.6L 3 cyl, 300hp turbo, 6sp, 3 selectable AWD modes, with 4 performance settings. It was developed by the Gazoo Race engineers and drivers. It's basically a streetable rally car.

I'm not bragging on having one. I'm bragging on Toyota for making this thing available to us.

I thought I'd whip up a tribute sign for my wall. Got more painting and some glue to apply, but at least it's cut out.

    My car:

    Fusion 360 rendering

That spoiler is a future upgrade :)
    20240125_141841.jpg

Cut out of 18 gauge with a 16 gauge backplate

I'm going to paint rear lamps, tint the windows, paint background different color, etc...

    Vibration is a non-issue

    20240127_211625.jpg

The spring is long enough inside the EasyScriber to keep it against the steel even at the -0.1 cut height.

Aside from maybe doing hatch fills and the sort on say...anodized aluminum, I'm not really seeing much of a use yet

I do have two ideas for personal projects; one will be a few business cards (more to show) and second one of those tools with bolts and nuts, individually labeled for measuring the pitch and size of other nuts and bolts

Nice. That doesn’t look like a first timers work. Got my welder hooked up tonight. My other Lincoln shorted out a board think about 2 months ago when the extension cords ground was not on good enough and i kept trying to turn it on. And work in a wet hole on Friday. Picked up from the last welder, the tig welder had a thumb control on the torch and I didn’t like that wasn’t water cooled either, took the torch, foot pedal and water cooler off my other welder it was a precision tig 225 I bought new 10 years ago for 2350$ cost 4500$ lol got the square wave for only 1200$, has 340 amps and way more duty cycle and it’s definitely needed for some aluminum projects IMG_6492.jpg IMG_6443.jpg IMG_6455.jpg IMG_6459.jpg

@Kwikvette Have you cut any 3/8 on your table setup? I am looking at the primeweld cut 60 and would want to get a table in the future.

They are for rear HC bumper brackets

Off the table yes, not on

But the CUT60 is rated for 7/8" (with videos showing it cut 1")

You'll be good to go and have plenty of headroom

Do you have any interest in dialing in settings with this? Itll fit in a flat rate.

If I had extra 3/8", I'd send you a test piece or two for the cost of shipping (flat rate small box)

I just don't use or carry it

12 gauge stainless, and 16 gauge stainless

    And 11 gauge aluminum

Ok, just wanted to check before I send it to SCS. I still may just make these on a mill at work.

Have you considered laminating thinner pieces to make it 3/8"

When I made my log grappler I sandwiched 2, 1/4" pleices to make them 1/2" thick.

Only one that's gonna know they laminated is you.

@Kwikvette , didn't you do that with your metal bending brake?

I did, I had made gooseneck dies with notches in key areas for welding them together

Came out really well but being 3/8", I wonder how much of a bevel it would have (if any) to begin with

I would dial my setup for 3/8" but no one's ever asked for such a job so I haven't tried it yet

I've got 1/4" dialed though mainly cause I've done my skids, dies, and motor mounts in that thickness

One guy recently was asking the most basic newb stuff you can think of (cause he overthinks shit too much), days later he's cutting 1/2" stainless steel (posted today)

It would take me 2 days to find if I could even cut it halfway decent .

I mean, I guess that just depends on how much time you have to do something.

If you have to fire up your stuff, cut, then walk away for a few days then sure.

But you should be able to get a decent cut within half hour of dialing stuff in; once dialed no need to change anything.

I shudder to think the cost for 1/2" stainless stock just gets your settings.

I can't imagine having nothing less than the best for a cutter to run that SS stock.

Just do be clear, are we having a discussion about you ability to cut thick SS? Sarcasm and 3rd person conversations throw me a bit and I have insulted people not knowing that I interpreted the convos correctly.

I mean, I'm not gonna tell you what you already know (pretty sure you've got me beat in experience by many years lol) but what I did worked perfect

Tagging @TacoTuesday603 since he showed interest in getting a table in the future so he could certainly benefit from the information
