its a z270a. says it runs gen 3 PCIE so no not full speed as if on gen 4 PCIE. I didn't want to drop a full grand to upgrade. got PSU GPU SSD and 2 new case fans for 430 bucks. figured that'd limp me along enough. I dont do video editing or play massivley demanding games. and discord + a single game should be just fine. Hell I could do that with more demanding games running with the old 1070 and hybrid HDD/ssd drive that was awfully slow.

No worries, like I said I'll let others chime in!

A new motherboard and cpu won't run you a grand, not even half of that.

Just got rid of a 12400F and B660M motherboard for just over $200 cause they were extras :anonymous:

In my mind if it was new motherboard and cpu it was also new ram, and new liquid cooler for the cpu since you gotta keep the fancy new shit nice and cool. So that would be what +500 on top of what I was already changing? Woulda been an extra 500 maybe more.

plus in theory this setup I have is “better” than sisters fiancés pc and he was running palworld and discord with me. Worst case I take it to some fuckin shop and go “fix it”. Or yes wait a month or so and get a new mobo cpu and ram

You did get me looking down the rabbit hole of what I could get done for mobo+CPU+ ram for 400 bucks hm. Tempting for sure. Still would rather fix what I’ve got lol

This is what I'd get on a budget. All available at Best Buy.

    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-b5...ing-motherboard-black/6504286.p?skuId=6504286
    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/amd-ry...-stealth-cooler-black/6438943.p?skuId=6438943

Optional air cooler. Water cooler pumps tend to give out or they leak. I have a Noctua, which I've had no problems with in 5 years. I also have a couple Cooler Masters non-LED.

    Good luck, Cartter :)

Thanks for info. I think I'll get some new Ram since I know I wont be shelling out enough $ to upgrade to DDR5 board if i do that route. I've been eyeing a hardware swap reddit page that people put out listing for new in box stuff. ex:5800x3d + B650 gigabyte board for 350. not bad pricing. I just don't think I can justify the money for it. Have other financial goals.

Also changed up settings on background process permission/what programs are allowed to start on launch. And tried to replicate the crashes and couldn't get one to happen. Only difference was, I was solo in discord call not actively talking to someone, and maybe that location in game may not have had as much activity. But who knows

I would steer clear of AM4; AM5 is the newest and it'll stick around for awhile.

Plus several of Intel's offerings offer better performance than AMD's more expensive variants.

    That motherboard is expensive.

I will likely do DDR4 because I have that currently, and if I do DDR4 it could swap in to a board for newer chipsets. That example with a 5800x3d would be more than ok for me. Realistically I'm not a snob about maximum settings nor are my regular games very difficult to run. Game + Itunes + Discord is most I'll every have going simultaneously also so that CPU would be more than enough for how much I'm willing to spend. Computers aren't my main hobby. Plus I'm lame and would rather put $1,000 into my investment account than into nicer computer parts for 30-40% marginal gain in performance.

I did AM4 last year simply because I had fancy RGB DDR4 ram from a prior build and was too cheap to do DDR5, mobo and cpu w/cooler.

I wouldnt do AM4 anymore unless you found a crazy price on a mobo. The 5800x3d is great, but I really wish I had got a 7600x or 7700x and just been more patient. (the 7800x3d wasnt out yet)

Yeah AM4 prices aren't really changing, but AM5 isn't really much more

But the AM5 will last significantly longer.

I expect LGA1700 socket type to phase out with Intel's next iteration, but right now there's a plethora of options for cheap and they just about all support 12th, 13th, and 14th Gen Intels.

A 12400 lacks E cores so it powers easily through 1440p and 4k (respectively) gaming with easy to run items in the background like Discord and more.

Not to sound like an Intel fanboy, cause I still have 3DMark benchmarks from using AMD, but I look at "best bang for the buck".

If you want to save cash, I've got some 32gb of DDR4 G.Skill Trident Z I'd sell ya for cheap (4x 8gb).

Was offering it with my extra RTX 3080 GPU I posted up but it'll basically all just end up in my storage.

It may be something I do later this summer once my work picks up again. I do fulltime in summers and I make about double the hourly then so 600 bucks then vs now is much different lol. If I do wait that long or longer ill go to ddr5 and a newer chipset

I'll let you know on the RAM. Some options locally on fb marketplace for pretty cheap too. not 100% sure if I need it since I couldnt replicate the crashing so far

How cheap we talkin? and I'm assuming it still works fine and wont do what mines doing lol

also going to 4 modules vs 2 will I have to alter anything in BIOS or should it auto read and configure

So I can play league of legends, or Star Wars battlefront 2 and no issues. But palworld maybe uses up more RAM since it’s not going in and out of individual games? So once my ram reaches its limit after 25-40 mins of palworld it crashes? Yet palworld should in theory be easier to run than SW bf2. Aside from the open world aspect

If the intent is to go DDR5 at all, don't waste a single dollar on DDR4 you'll replace soon

And if your other games play well, and the issue is specific to Palworld then you must be randomly clicking stuff without reading anything often

Palworld is on an early release and crashes, etc are expected to be normal

They literally have this disclosure in various areas not to mention it's disclosed when you buy it

I haven't had a single issue, but I'm betting one or two issues could be stability and optimization; a more powerful computer will power through it but an old dinosaur like yours suffers the issues you're experiencing

I mean I did fail the memory test but not horribly.

I’m thinking it’s an AMD thing. Any other instance online looks like they have AMD cards. Wonder if I should put the 1070 back in and try. Seems silly though

Rerun the tests, a module that fails a test can exhibit what you're experiencing

Highly doubt switching cards will do it

Then you'll run the risk of having both nVidia drivers and AMD drivers present; even though a gpu swap takes just a minute, you always want to fully remove one set of drivers before going to the other

With that said, you completely ignored the bold print which is highly likely; not sure the difficulty in understanding this

I heard. It’s just frustrating lol. So if I run the memtest again and same results, do I really need new ram if it’s only the one early access game causing the issue? That’s where I’m on the fence

    You.are.playing.an.early.release.game.

I'm not trying to sound mean but you're having trouble with basic troubleshooting as it is, so I'm out.

I'll chalk it up to old computer and early release game.

    Yeah.
Memory errors are bad. All it takes is for the system to try to use that block of memory, and you may get some type of error.

I'd run the test a few times and note the memory location that it sees errors. If it's the same, you have bad RAM. If it moves around, it could either be bad RAM or something wrong with your motherboard. You may want to set BIOS setting to default (not sure if you tweaked anything there) and run the test again. Sometimes using the XMP settings puts the memory too close to the edge of what it is capable of.

But as mentioned, Palworld is an early release from a relatively new development team. It seems to be the common thing in all your crashes. So there's that.
