I saw this at a house in Bethlehem where I dropped off a DoorDash order...

I am very OCD about HVAC installation, and I would never have installed the A/C unit in front of the house if I were the installer, or allowed it to be installed there if I were the owner. This is a 2003-2005ish Goodman, from the era right before @6 gearT444E's Goodman when this brand was absolute shit, but aside from the location of the unit I think it's a good install. The house was built in 1960 and last sold in 2013 according to Zillow, so since this unit is no newer than about 2004, the current owners had no say in where it was installed. Since it was built in 1960, I highly doubt that it originally had central air, I would never put the A/C unit directly in the front of the house!

Hasn't goodman been a builder grade trash product since the name was acquired by ICP?

Actually Goodman is its own company. I forget who actually owns it, but they also sell slightly more expensive Amana HVAC equipment; I would never put either in my house, and I cannot wait until the Goodman A/C units that came with my house die...

I had to argue with the company that was doing my grandparents AC install. They're a good local company and have done my parents HVAC stuff too but they deal in a lot of ICP products. I had to push to get them to sell my grandparents a Lennox condenser unit. Their house isn't old and they always do everything to last so why be different here.

ICP (International Comfort Products) is actually owned by United Technologies, which owns Carrier and Bryant. Most ICP units are cheapo Carriers, which is what they were probably trying to sell your grandparents; I am not huge fan of high end Lennox equipment, but the entry-level Lennox stuff is okay. My aunt's townhouse was built in 2009, and it still has the original Lennox A/C and gas furnace!

I appreciate that Lennox typically retains the same part numbers in use for a good many years in their lines so you get a long serviceability window with them

My best friend's parents have a 2003 Dave Lennox Signature Series 2.5-ton unit that is still going strong after twenty years!

I would not want that in front of the house either, if for some reason of construction demands forced it there then would at least disguise it with landscape.

We are in lots of trouble if this "subscription services" trend continues.
It won't be long before we have to pay a monthly subscription to get into our houses.

I already pay $2.00 a month at my bank for a paper statement.
We are become too reliant on internet access.

This place on Ferry Road just outside of Doylestown was a Mexican restaurant, but it's been vacant and deteriorating for years, and it has a prime example of how not to install air-conditioners...

My cousin and her husband bought a brand new townhouse in the Wilkes-Barre area back in 2018, and it came with this 2.5-ton Rheem central air-conditioner (matched with a gas furnace)...

I just bought a heat pump with a bad reversing valve for forty bucks; I pick it up on Sunday. It is a 3.5-ton Goodman with R-22 refrigerant, and it has already been evacuated of Freon and uninstalled.

I am taking a gamble on whether or not I can actually clear $40 when I scrap it, but @Stitchgirl90 is paying for half because I fronted her some money for her tuition. My friends in the HVAC community think that I will clear $40, but I am buying this more to tear it apart and explore the inner workings; I haven't torn apart a central A/C unit since November 2022 and I am dying to do it again!

You know more about that stuff than I do.
I'd just be paying $40 for a flat tire if I scraped it.
And that's not including gas money spent.
