TRD Pro skid plate bolt sizes

Prefer to do my oil changes w/o the skid plate in the way.
I'd like to replace my TRD Pro skid plate bolts with studs.
Anybody know the size I need to acquire.
I'd like to do all 6. It appears the forward 4 are same size and the rear 2 are smaller.

I just changed my oil so it will be a while before I have it off again.
Would like to have them ready for my next oil change.

Would the large bolts be

$13 m12x1.25 mm self-locking nylon insert hex lock nuts, pack of 6

m12x1.25?
I've read about every thread I could find.
Again. I'd like to use studs to make the skid easier for me to reinstall.
Would use washers and nuts on the bottom side.
I realize this could cause some snags when the plate does it's job.
However, for my needs I think it will work well.

Not a bad idea, at all. Just trim them down close. Just take a couple of them off and match them up at the Ace.

 

That's my plan if I don't get a definitive answer on the size.
I'll install studs and put the retaining washers between the spacer and plate.
Rubber o-rings work well. I already lost one of the retaining washers. My truck has had 5 oil changes in 20k miles. Left skid in place for 1 and won't do that again.

 

If I was you I would simply remove one and inspect it. If you don’t have the measuring tools, they typically have them at the local hardware store that are free to use. It seems simpler than searching the internet for the same info.

 

I can do that. I have thread checkers. The ends have a portion not threaded for alignment. wasn't sure if my thread checkers would be deep enough.
Being a tacoma forum, I have seen some posts where people bought aftermarket skids and were looking for hardware info.
I didn't think it would would be a big deal to ask or get the info.
Apparently it is. So, I'll figure it out myself.

That is HUGE.
An M12 bolt uses like 16mm or 17mm socket?
You sure?
I'm thinking it more like an M8

 

Front 4 are

Do you use the motivx oil change tools?
I ask because I am thinking of buying the TRD skid plate and one of the reasons was to make oil changes easier along with more under vehicle protection.
I used the motivx tools on my last oil change and it was pretty straight forward and cleaner. seemed like some time could be saved not having to remove the skid plate.

 

I use the filter tool.
Honestly, I don't see any way the oil and filter can be changed without some mess unless the skid is removed.
yes, it can be done but there is going to be some oil that gets places you don't want it. Then it will pool somewhere on the skid and sooner or later run out somewhere.
The one time I left the skid in place I dammed up around the openings with tshirts.
I was still no happy with the results.

I liked the arrangement with my TRD OR much better. It obviously was lacking in the protection dept.
Just a much simpler process.

I like your idea of studs and nuts, same messy experience with rci skids. Going to look into this.

Acorn nuts, female barrel bolts, or a sacrificial outer jam nut would all help mitigate cobble strikes that damage the outer nut faces.

 

the motivX filter cap drain tool and a fumoto valve always for a COMPLETELY mess free oil change. I’m talking like a paper towel is all that needed.
