DIY suspension kit help

Hello, first time taco owner looking to change the suspension by myself. I have done some mods already, but they were quite less complicated than this. Changed front bumper, headlights, exhaust, and air intake but this is definitely the most complex change I want to make. Mudify sells lift kits and I was wondering if anyone could advise if these kits include everything I need. Both are 2.5in lift kits, so I don’t think I will have to do any differential change. Really looking for something plug and play but do not want to just run spacers. Attached photos of the 2 kits I was looking into.
-also if anyone could give opinions on these 2 options. OME v. Bilstein 5100s

 

What year is your truck? I had the ome kit on my first gen and lived it, but that being said I went to fox 2.5's up front and love it even more. But if you want a all inclusive kit I can comfortably recommend the ome kit.

The first one (5100s) doesnt show UCAs, but make sure you do those with any lift.

 

Yes upper control arms are a must with anything over 1.5". Without them your alignment shop is goings to hate you, and your truck and tires wont like you much either.

Most people can do that with an upgraded tire and good driving. No lift required.

Some folks do it with 2wd and better driving, like @Rock Lobster

 

First truck, first time off-roading. 0 knowledge or off-roading skills as of right now so I’d like to be as safe with it as possible lol - a little bigger tires to ensure I have to most capability until I learn the driving skills and lines

 

I have personally found a 1" lift to be the sweet spot.

Here's why- I run a heavier leaf pack in the rear for handling the trailer and camping stuff, and the front is there strictly to maintain the rake. Otherwise I wouldn't be lifted at all.

When going off-road, down travel is more important than stance. And without a full control arm replacement you're just putting your truck in high heel shoes - aka you're sacrificing down travel for stance. Not clearance. Just looks. You get clearance through tires, and even then, you're getting about an inch. Meh.

I agree, good tires with decent traction are where it's at. Everything else is appearance.

 

Thank you all for the replies, honestly I’ll probably keep the stock suspension then and go for a good set of all terrain tires. Been looking at 265/75/16 toyo open country at3s. Any recommendations?

You are going to find die-hard fans in any of the popular four: Open Country, Duratracs, KO2, or Wildpeak AT3/AT4. Its really hard to go wrong with any of those.
