Just another reason I love this forum - the Mods let it rip. You want to talk shit about Tacos and rave about Chevys - go for it.
But I am curious - why are you here and not on the Chevy forum. Don't get me wrong I'm OK with it just don't understand it.
I mean I am not on the Chevy forum talking about how I think GM products are a pile of shit and Toyota is way more reliable - which btw I absolutely believe and believe it or not, is why I landed here on the Taco forum you know because I have a . . . . wait for it . . . . . . . . . a Taco.
But go on - I'm listening

The op never really shit on the tacoma other than the fact his delivery kept getting delayed, so he went with another brand. He created his username a week before this thread was made most likely anticipating being a Tacoma owner. Plenty of people do it. I created an account on GM fourms while I waited for my 2019 silverado to be delivered.

The people talking shit are actually Toyota owners lol including myself.

It's okay for a Tacoma owner to say they like a new truck over theirs. Toyota isn't the company is used to be.

I'm the OP. Prior to joining this forum, I owned a 2021 Tacoma Sport. I'de leased a 2019 prior to that. I've never had much luck with GM, this coming from a guy that has owned 9 different Corvettes, I swore I'd never own another GM. After reading a ton of reviews on the Canyon, I went and drove one. Ended up buying it, I'll give it a chance and see how it works out. Really like it so far, fingers crossed.

I ended my relationship with GM at the Corvette C8.

Already had it on the highway. No shake. Some say it is only the 8 speed transmission that shakes. Mine has the 6 speed 6L80.

That sucks. Mine is also 5.3L 6 speed. It drives really smooth actually, and I am waiting for my OBD-II AFS disabler too so it is worst case now.

Seems as though 20% buy back is the highest I have seen in any gen Colorado/Canyon. GM also has hit rock bottom in reliability and quality.

Because I own a 2015 Tacoma. Competition in the mid-sized truck category is nothing to be scared of. Open-mindedness > Brand loyalty

Everybody, I guess has their individual experiences with cars and trucks:
    For me
    Excellent:
2018 Subaru Outback (had since brand new - not a single issue)
2022 Taco (bought with less than 14,000 miles in Dec 22 - not a single issue - 32,000 miles)
    Very Good:
89 Honda CR-X (no mechanical issues - should have kept it but was being assigned overseas and a buddy wanted it and gave me a good price for it )
99 Honda CR-Z (no mechanical issues - good car but not the pocket rocket like the CR-X and I wanted the Benz) )
02 Benz - C 230 Kompressor ( didn't cost me a dime until the maintenance warren ended and then way too expensive for just routine maintenance - so good until it wasn't - but it did not have mechanical issues just expensive to maintain)
05 Acura TL ( really an over priced re-badged Accord but Honda reliable)
    Good to OK
92 Diamante (no mechanical issues but service was expensive)
97 Diamante (no mechanical issues but service was expensive)
    Really Bad:
92 Olds Cutlass (you name it this one must have been built on Monday - anything and everything broke on it)
87 Mercury Lynx (re-badged Ford Escort - another dog - under 30,000 miles timing chain broke - transmission seized - literally a piece of shit)
79 Plymouth Volare (inherited form wife's grand parents ~ 12 years old - engine was a beast but wouldn't start in the cold all the other stuff was falling apart)

The 2023 Canyon release wasn't very successful. There was a factory strike which negatively effected everything, including parts availability. Over-the-air updates were constantly pinging vehicles, killing their batteries. Infotainment screens were getting bricked. Roofs were denting in touchless car washes. Parts weren't available to fix trucks which sat at dealerships for months, hence lots of buybacks.

The OTA update issue sounds like it is fixed now. The denting roof issue has been fixed on the production line. There were service bulletins issued for other known issues such as an injector problem and a howling rear axle problem.

2024 should be much improved, but it's still to be seen. Another thing to keep in mind, many people only go on the forums to report problems. The % of responses to a poll are nowhere near a real life representation of how many people have problems.

It's definitely a bit of a gamble, as is buying the 1st year release of the 4th gen Tacoma. Interested to see how everything plays out this year.

Man my Toyota has had several recalls, engine lights popping on for emissions junk, people are changing out the drivers side bearings with low miles, frames are cracking and rusting, body parts are cracking and rusting, white paint is falling off. Tranny shifts terribly. Stock motor is lethargic. Throttle positions sensor issues. Leaky brake lights. Leaky cab rubber vents. Im sure many many more common problems could be added to this.

Not sure reliability is the Tacoma's thing anymore.

Honda has them beat, and the rest I think have caught up for the most part.

This is all why I have been seriously considering getting a new 4runner which I used to dislike for how outdated it is. That underground looks sweet! Doesn't have to be a Pro but by the time you had some options like KDSS, XP etc itthe TRD OR starts getting to pro price.
