Maybe I’ve just always taken this for granted but I am shocked how many people can’t do basic math in their heads…. Is it really that rare?
I’m not doing calculus equations in my head, just things like adding feet and inches, adding /4 /8 /16 fractions and figuring square footage.

had a conference call with a customer this morning and she was upset that I can’t make 400lb stone pieces for my installers to move on site by hand. She mentioned that this other room has this piece and it’s not seamed so why can’t this room have the same thing. Umm…not the same that’s a 2’x8’ piece vs a 4’6”x6’6” piece so you know…roughly twice the size twice the weight… 250lbs vs 450lbs
Did that on the fly while she’s talking. She had to break out her rhinestone encrusted calculator to double check me. Then looked baffled that my numbers were right.

I love when people forget about doorways and they want to change tubs, shower surrounds, furniture...stuff bigger than 3'6"...."but the room is big enough!". "What about the doorways?".

Much like You had to teach me that basic punctuation & sentence structure has changed........

Basic real everyday math is no longer taught. Example: we didn't learn to do math with a calculator until we got to trig/calc....
EVERYTHING else was done by your brain. One of the tests to get into our apprenticeship program was to draw a ruler & break down the inches........... Only 4 of us passed that out of 32.

Used to work at a furniture store… I know all too well that scenario. I remember one customer was so set on buying this sectional sofa she hired a crew to remove a window because the stairs to the 2nd floor were too narrow for my delivery crew
but these people are my age or older! And they work in construction! Not a day goes by that I’m not dealing with some math.

    Afternoon everyone :hattip:

Looks like the Eaton M62 supercharger on my 3rz 4cyl had a meltdown earlier today and started seizing up . Luckily I was on my way to get it rebuilt today . The tech that was going to rebuild / overhaul it told me he was having a hard time trying to remove the rotor shaft bearing races

Hopefully I get my truck back tommorow and the supercharger is making alot of boost
