Stupid locking gas cap

Maybe I should have titled "stupid me for buying locking gas cap". So I bought a locking gas cap from Amazon. It did not have an "S" on it but it seemed to work ok. Mo messages. Used it for 6 months then it got really cold here. Well the darn thing became impossible to take off. Tried using instructions on cap and every other combination possible. Could get it off eventually but next time same problems. Was just paranoid someone would put something in the tank not worried about theft. Have now re-installed stock oem cap. Just a thought for anyone thinking of getting a locking stupid gas cap.

 

My tank got drilled by fuel thieves because of my stupid locking gas cap. The thieves were even stupider because they tried drilling out my stupid locking gas cap first and couldn’t get it off, so they drilled the tank instead.

No more stupid locking gas caps for me!

 

You'd think for about $3 Tacomas could come with a locking gas door.

Who steals gas these days? Such a nasty process for something that costs about the same as a gallon of milk where I live.

 

I have the gas cap on the left in post #61. No CEL light and easy on and off in cold and hot weather over 8 years.

I work at a high school and drilling into my tank is not a worry. Just wanted to keep funny stuff out of my tank. One time driving home from school there were empty pizza boxes and napkins in my open bed. Imagine my surprise when on the freeway and I looked in the rear view mirror. If you have concerns about drilling it might be best to have a non locking gas cap. Me, I just worry about kids being kids.

 

Maybe the school has cameras on the administration parking lot?

ya ya I know. I used Amazon cause we don't have good suppliers in Canada like you do in US. Ordered a "stant" even showed stant on box and in advert. Got it and it was not in stant box and did not have an s. Sent it back. Ordered another with a different supplier from amazon. Arrived again in no stant box and no s. Thought I'd try it and it worked ok for 6 months then became stupid.

Canadians get ruled/regulated and taxed to death. We just say "thanks eh" and carry on.

I got tired of them “stupid locking gas caps” and bought a smart gas cap.. It’s Bluetooth and if it’s tampered with my phone chimes…

 

Does your phone chime when someone drills into the bottom of your gas tank?

I am sure someone could print one.
As a side note don’t give use fire near gas tank fumes. Boom. some people do things without really thinking it out. Drink disinfectant.. there were people who did according to emergency room reports.
