turning my 06 2x4 into a 4x4

05+ spindles are the same for prerunners and 4X4s

 

Whoa whoa whoa. Hey now. If I can get 4x4 for a grand sign me up...

 

To do it 100% stock you will need

Front Diff,
Transfer case,
misc mounts and brackets,
front driveshaft,
4x4 rear driveshaft (someone correct me if i'm wrong),
Wiring harness(es),
4x4 Guage cluster (for the indicator lights)
4x4 ECU,
Axles,
4x4 knuckles w/ hubs,
Time,
Another vehicle to drive until you finish the conversion,
Butt lube when you sell it (converting to 4x4 isn't going to make it worth anymore money),
More Time

I have been wrenching on cars for years and feel perfectly comfortable I could tackle and finish this job in a weekend...however that being said, because of my experience in working on vehicles it wouldn't be worth my time or money. I would just sell the prerunner and buy a 4x4 of a comparable year and price range.

The mods you added to the prerunner can be easily transferred to the 4x4.

 

I think there is also some sort of adapter for the trans so the t-case will hook up.

 

Can this job be done with regular hand tools, jack, and jackstands? What kind of specialty tools would be needed?

 

shouldnt really need much. everything should just be bolt on.

 

Im pretty mechanically inclined I'm pretty sure if it's just bolt everything on I can do it. But tranny work and fab I would have to take it somewhere. Would the electrical be hard to wire up our would out be easier to just do a manual shifter? Would I still need electrical if I did that?

 

i am not 100% sure on the trans stuff. I think it might have if you went to a manual t-case. The electrical would be pretty easy to wire in and no you wouldnt need to run the electrical stuff if you have a manual t-case.

 

i just PMed a guy on ttora who has done this. ill let yall know what he says. if this is a reasonable cost im going to do it. like under 2k
