Wow they must have stored that in the aquarium lol.

That's not the fault of the shipping company, whoever pulled it and boxed it wasn't paying attention that it was full of water.

Normally it would come right apart with the screws out but it was rusted solid lol.

 

I wasn't sure if it was some kind a mud-water vaccuum holding it together or, as you mentioned (something much more realistic), rust
I'll just write off that whole disassembly attempt as a one-off on things the way they really should not have been.

So after a week of waiting on the new part to actually ship, but not getting notice of shipment, I decided I would try a third time to procure this thing. I log in to start searching and see notice that the part I purchased last week has in fact shipped, and will be here tomorrow.




This shipped UPS Ground, possibly in a DeLorean judging by the tracking timeline. That is some seriously fast shipping that was included in the $100 price. I guess we'll see what arrives tomorrow. I do have a 3rd one lined up just in case.

Thank you for the link! Perfect timing as I decided to replace the whole brake thing and really get my hands dirty It should be here by 10 pm per Amazon. This Amazon Same Day and Overnight delivery options really have me spoiled lol

 

If you replace the whole ABS unit, you'll still need TechStream to activate the ABS module to purge the air.
You can't really get the air out of the ABS module/Unit without activating the ABS pump.

 

I saw the options related to it in Techstream, but for everything I've watched and read this past week, I never came across anything about having to use it.....but I've also been searching the generic 2nd Gen Tacoma Brake Bleed, etc. This qualifies as a double-the-moron effort on my end because I never searched Techstream Brake Bleed OR Brake Actuator replacement brake bleed. Did not check manual either duh. Used Techstream in search just now and omg there it all is. I'll be reading a little more tonight with hopes of attempting tomorrow. Thank you for the reality check

The Brake Actuator part arrived on Wednesday, just as the tracking indicated. It is clean and pristine, almost like it was never installed. Plugged it in and it seems to work. This was just the test plug-in and not any type of installation of course.

Regarding the wires under the passenger seat, I looked under there and it appears I was wrong about them being disconnected. They are all connected, but just kind of hanging there. I’ll double check all the connections and at least get them tucked away this weekend.

In case there are codes related, the driver seat is still disconnected and out of the truck. I hope to be putting that back in this weekend after I get the carpet all cleaned up

Common denominator for failure = SRS Airbag part. I’ve hunted down a few and presume I should get one ordered, but will ask for confirmation from the experts first . With all of the $500 price tags I see, I just want to make 100% sure.

I mean from all the tests it sure looks like it's bad, weather or not the Occupant Classification ECU is alive and ok I guess we'll have to see. Looking like almost every module in the truck got fried unfortunately.
Where are you finding them for $500, I dropped that part number into google and quite a few dealers show it in the $375-$400 range shipped.

 

I see it with the lower price now whew. I guess I wasn't paying attention when I clicked the links because the latter part of the part number was different than what I was after.

First one ended in 4040 which isn't even close / it was close to $600. This one is embarrasing because I had the right part number, but the price was in CAD. I won't even try to explain that one other than it has been a really long week. I see all kinds of reset/repair services, but they all look like airbag module reset w/seat belt repair. Hopefully this is the last one

 

After a trying couple of weeks, I'm back with somewhat of an update and, of course, in need of guidance. The brake actuator part is installed. Spouse did it; not sure of steps or anything he may have followed. He's one of those fortunate men that doesn't require instructions for anything*. The brake system was bled (master cylinder/lines) and I'm out here now with the Techstream about to attempt the air bleed function with spouse at the rear wheel. FYI - the Airbag module is still disconnected, but the front driver seat is connected again
I feel like something was missed somewhere - am I OK to proceed with this?

Only way to know is by doing it.
Have at it, bleed a way.

You know you’re doing it right, when you can get someone else to do it for you.
Plus, you said it yourself, he “knows” what he is doing.

Seriously, all sounds good to bleed them. Go.

 

Strike 1 on this end. I get a message "air bleed failed". I did hear something kick on and run for about 2 seconds though.

Silly question, should the cap be tight or loose on the master cylinder for this part? Fluid was added just before starting this process; I believe it is on tight right now.

 

I’ve never used TechStream.
But the cap should make no difference.
I leave mine on. Only because I have a habit of misplacing.

I’m not home right now to get the service data. But I know the the FSM usually tells you the steps involved when using TechStream.

I’ll be back home in a couple hours.
I know probably don’t want to wait they long. Hopefully someone else can help you. If not, I’ll see when I get back home.

FWIW, I used a gravel parking lot to bleed mine. Fast stops to activate the ABS. Rinse and repeat.

Lesson learned. Always make sure you cap the brake lines when disconnecting a brake line.

 

In my head it is always the worst case scenario with the new part being ruined because something was done out of order or not considered. Also, I'm not in any hurry. The suggestion of driving it and stopping fast has me of the mindset I might be overthinking all of this again It's cold and rainy here anyways; spouse went back inside so I can actually focus. I'll hold off for now and do some reading and hold out for official suggestions. Thank you again TacomaWorld for the quick responses

 

I don't really have much for you as far as using Techstream to bleed the ABS but here's the FSM section on it.

 

Hello TacomaWorld. I’m still here and so is the MiracleTruck that rose from the dead. Just passed 18 months since the lightning strike, which has me wondering which TacomaWorld thread would have the longest time taken to get a non-running Taco roadworthy again..?

We left off with the brake actuator install/brake system bleed, both of which were completed by spouse because he was tired of waiting on me to do it. I helped with the actuator bleed using Techstream. It seems to have worked as there are no codes and the brakes appear to work. Afterwards, I got the truck reassembled with only 3 bolts left over, and I know where those go

The next day we were able to start it and drive it out of the workshop. Although the mess in the shop is embarrassing, I thought it was neat to see the empty space, so here’s a pic of it:



I’ll get it cleaned up again one day and post a redeeming pic that doesn’t look like something from one of those Wrong Turn or Final Destination movies.

This has been just over a week since moving it back outside. It still cranks and starts consistently. It does idle high (~1,500rpm), but from what I read, it might just need time to relearn some things?.

The Secondary Air one bothers me for some reason, like maybe this Air Injection Driver got fried with everything else. Looks like there are several ways to test the different parts of it by connecting it to a power source, etc. I love that I can search the code here in TW and get some great guidance I’m sure I will be back asking questions about these bypass kits.

However, before I do any of this, I need to get it filled with petrol because it is e-e-empty. Drove it around the block last night and outside of the high idle it seemed to run pretty well. Considering the codes above, my question for the experts: is it OK to drive it another short distance to get gas, etc? Not looking to commute in it or anything, I just would prefer to go to where the gas is instead of toting gas here. If it goes into limp mode from the SAIS, it’s not too far to get back. I know I already drove it around the block and it did OK; I just don’t want to push my luck.

I don't see why not, make sure your coolant and oil is good.
The only SAIS codes that will cause limp mode is for the valves being stuck open.

 

I chuckled when I saw this because that sounds exactly what I go through here. I knew by putting it back on that I'd be good...unitl I went out that night to find it missing after spouse had been out there. TWO DAYS it took to finally stumble across it wedged between some engine parts under the hood I didn't immediately recognize.

Those things aren't cheap either. Glad I didn't have to buy one!

 

Did you ever make any more progress on this?
