I never read the instructions to anything. Does that qualify me as an engineer?

I've noticed ambient air temp has a great effect on mileage. Plus winter gas knocks it down too. I had a Ram that I put cardboard in front of the radiator in below freezing temps and it boosted it a couple or so mpg's. Short trips kill it too. I've found mine doesn't like real highway speeds but 40-60 you can get insane mpg's. I only have 3+k and don't know if there's a break in benefit ahead for me? As @RichochetRabbit said the instant mileage screen is a big help to tune your driving style.

stock stock stock. Everyone boasting about the good gas mileage has a low to the ground stock skinny tire truck.

Once its lifted and bigger tires, roof rack, etc and you drive it freeway speeds often, MPG is lost.

Look on the bright side, if it was a fullsize truck and you lifted it your mileage would be even worse. The sad thing is, none of this smog added and epa stuff has helped gas mileage very much at all. The 87, 93 or any years of the ole 4 banger Toytota got just as good of MPG, total mileage and you could work on it. I dont recall them spewing smog either.

Most are a snapshot in time and are not relevant. Total calculated tank mileage is what matters 'cuz that's what's sucking $$ out of your pocket.
    All of the about.

Buy a different vehicle if you care about gas mileage. I just took a road trip and the best I got was around 18 mpg. All I have is 265/75/r16 tires, sliders, and roof rack, bed cover. But again it’s a truck and I don’t care much for chasing mpg. I do have a heavy foot so I don’t baby the truck either, which definitely doesn’t help

I have same run and tire size and running 2 front and 1 in rear lift. Plus leitner rack and other adds ons … I get about the same or a little more depending on seemingly weather , gas … who knows . After a while I accepted I hit a truck to do truck this . And tossed chasing mog out the window . I do have the OTT tune and it helps with bogging down and seemed to help a tad . Improves driving a lot though

I heard a cold air intake makes gas mileage more worse than good, due to using more air flow = shitier gas milage, correct me if i am wrong.

Other than conservative driving habits there is nothing you can do to improve fuel mileage over the way it left the factory. There are lots of things you can do to make it worse. Your tires are probably costing you 1-2 mpg due to the aggressive tread. The leveling kit another 1/2 to 1 mpg.

You're wrong (mostly), the Tacoma comes with a CAI from the factory, so no difference between the flow of air, however, all aftermarket foam-filter CAIs filter like crap compared to the factory style filter.

As for the "more air" argument, no, the MAF in the Tacoma intake is responsible for weighing the inbound air and measures the fuel out accordingly, so regardless of whether you have no filter at all, or have a hugely clogged filter (or are at really high altitude), any given mass of air will yield the same amount of power, regardless of intake restriction.

As explained, aftermarket intakes have a negligible effect on air flow. But either way, more air does not increase fuel consumption. More fuel does.

Don't know. It gets what it gets. Says on the window sticker.

I know folks in the UK do LPG conversions. Not sure what effect that has.

Folks in the UK pay $6.88 / gallon, and Tacoma is fairly large for the narrow-ish country roads there.

Sorry ... should not have interrupted ... :D

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Welcome to tacomaworld, otherwise known as bro emoji land.

Nothing you can do. As others said, the mpg goes from crap to crappier (that’s french for shit) as soon as you up the tires, add a lift, etc.

Put masking tape over the odometer and trip meters and tell yourself it’s a Prius.

Damn, wheres that emoji keyboard gone…

If it makes you feel any better, I was driving a Nissan Altima briefly after getting my Tacoma. The Altima could not get better than 21/22 even with careful driving.
