What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I’ve read the original Yaris forum writeup for that original OCS bypass. From what the maker found, it’s not as simple as setting up resistors. The guy who built those units went with a microcontroller to make the SRS system operate correctly. The exact why I have no idea as he never expounded in great detail beyond it not just being as simple as say what can be done with the standalone bladder units. My assumption is the controller possibly feeds the piggyback ECU a sequence of values but that’s beyond me.

But anyone is free to try and tinker with it for themselves.

 

Got my 08 DCLB a couple weeks ago. Today I got the glove box and centre console organizers. Changed the cabin filter. Looks like it was original. Was disgusting.

also took it to my local stealership for them to inspect and order my new lead springs under the recall.

 

Understandable. It really doesn't matter to me other than I was just curious what the OCS system differences are exactly. No one has ever really outlined what they are other than bladder ouput of a single value vs the 4X feet mounted sensors of 4 different values.

I don't have a Tacoma with bucket seats or have access to one so I won't be trying to do it anyways.

Edit: I found the thread where the development of the OCS bypass module was born. It makes sense to me what he did to make his now. It has four signal wires and two power(output and input) wires (not including the extra wire for seat belt). The bladder type only has one signal "wire" and two power "wires". 5V-Vout-GND using the 12228430 connector.

I know massive reply, but if there is a legit choice for a canopy just let me know I'm down to party! been trying to find a way to mount chase lights on my Tacoma topper for years!

I can certainly design one for a canopy, however they would likely be unique for every canopy brand, which would be tough to design for if i don't have a certain canopy. If you're local i'm happy to measure your canopy and develop one.

 

parts of me wonder that since most topper are built in bulk and would make a lot of since to use an off the shelf part. hence when my grandfather owned a massive 40ft diesel motor home, and someone cracked a lens on the tail light they were like ford bronco tail light housings. but the dealership swore up and down they were a dealer only part

 

Was looking at these, how is the road noise?

 

I just got a set of these on mine. Went to Discount to order a set of AT3Ws and saw the AT4Ws for a few bucks more, so I went with the 4s.

 

I hit a deer Sept 30 and insurance wanted to TOTAL my baby. I said, "Hell no, revise the estimate and I'll pay a little more to keep it from having a salvaged title." After all was said and done, I ended up with the 2009 2nd Gen conversion to 2.5 Gen, upgraded Morimoto LED headlights, Victory 4x4 bumper, Baja Design amber fogs and 20" S8 lightbar, heated seats and mirrors, Warn winch, blinking side mirrors, new CV's, alignment and windshield (was the original from Nov 2008!!). She rides good despite having the 885 OME springs up front; the preload helps soften it up a bit. I lost about 1/4" of lift height but I'm fine with that. Next I need to find a silver TRD skid plate and maybe some 33's?

I've been fixing rodent damage to wiring: Cable to LF wheel speed sensor - Cured ABS light. Wires to the brake master cylinder. And wires to the backup light switch - These were not accessible to repair so I had to run new wires down to the switch on the side of the transmission. Fortunately, the place to connect these is easily accessible behind the glove box. Still to do is wires to one of the knock sensors - I'll have to remove the manifold for those. I had some chewed hoses, too. What a huge hassle!!

 

Road noise is quite low. I don't hear them at all. I feel the AT4 is quite a nice blend for an AT tire. Haven't had them offroad or in the snow yet but would think they will perform just as well as the older AT3. Definitely night and day compared to my Goodyear UltraTerrain tires with 41K on them. They still had appox. 8/32nd of tread left but were extremely noisy and were getting really slick in the rain. I even had them siped just to prolong their replacement. But alas...

I’m guessing those are just the Amazon ones? Just helped my dad install some on his 3rd gen. Did you have to splice the taillight harness or are the plugs the same across generations?

Yep, OEM replicas from Amazon. I made a harness for them. I used a latching relay since the button is a momentary switch. Now the lights click on, click off. I didn’t like the look of the toggle switches and wanted a button instead.

2nd gens didn’t come with cargo lights or wiring for them. From what I’ve seen, the 3rd gens have the plugged cutouts in the bed and the wiring harness behind it.

 

Went through a little water to get the salt off the frame.
