here some items to check. The engine starts and runs for about 20-25sec in Either Mode with more DI injections to warm up cats. Check all connection and look at the high pressure pump.

Where is the high pressure pump, in the tank or frame rails? Maybe it didn't get connected.

Rear right side of engine. The low pressure pump in the tank supplies the port injectors and the high pressure fuel pump with fuel. The high pressure fuel pump further pressurizes the fuel up into the thousands PSI levels for the direct injectors.

Every time I changed batteries on my Tundra,it took a couple miles for the RPM s to run at normal idle. Are Tacomas the same?

It idles and runs now! We swapped out the cam sensors. It still idles high, but is coming down as the computer re-learns.

Don't know why the transmission temp says it's high when you first start up though, any idea? After that I'll drive it and see how it does on the road, and work on the rest of the codes.

The warning on the screen is triggered by sensor 2 (valve body temp sensor (tw calls it torque converter). Sensor 1 does not illuminate the warning screen, only MIL. Check codes and check all the wiring.

Is it possible I've introduced air bubbles or low fluid during the motor swap so the tranny should really be serviced while we're there? I think a bit of fluid drained when we disconnected the cooling lines, though not much. Error code set when first started up though, so we'll look where you suggest, thanks!

Could that gizmo be the cam actuator or cam solenoid?

True but I'd at least be throwing shade at the dealer for the oil filter shenanigans. As I said to GM after they agreed with me my dealer screwed me on a warranty job but said they wouldn't help me, I have a big mouth and can save others from this deceit which I will do..

You're this far in.. Id definitely drop the pan, clean the magnets, put a new filter in, and refill ATF / do the level check procedure. Bare minimum you should add a few qts and check the level. They are known to be low from the factory, so whatever you lost from the cooler isn't going to help.

Also I seem to recall some Easter egg with the 3rd gens.. They will give that high temp message under certain sensor failure conditions. Cant recall if it was cam sensor, crank sensor, or what. Like I said before read all the codes and we'll know more.

Yeah, I don’t remember the specifics but I stumbled onto an old thread the other day where someone had the AT temp message and it was their cam sensor I believe. But I may be misremembering and maybe that error comes up for multiple different possible bad sensors.

Found it! The main transmission plug wasn't clipped, now the error is gone, hopefully we can test drive it today. I still want to change tranny fluid, but I have to take the wins where I can :)

Weird part is the cam sensors on the donor motor were a little different than the ones on my smoked motor, I don't know why if they were both off a '17, but that made the difference of the motor running or not basically.

We also swapped the crank sensor as a troubleshooting step, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

Now we have to track down remaining codes, but might try to drive it first to see if that helps the computer re-lean what it doesn't know.

Having just read this thread from start to here, what a ride. Some people are built different. You are an inspiration @silverstr8p. So many things could be said but I'm gonna leave it at that. Best of luck finishing the repairs and God bless.

Drove it, shifted hard at first but got better, guess it's working air out of trans lines.

Got a bunch more codes though to work through, here's the list:

    P0713
    P0338
    P0748
    P0012
    P0022
    P0778
    P2716

Oh, and the airbag light is on and the traction skid control is intermittent. We'll have a fun day working on these codes. I thought the computer might learn if we drove it a bit, but the codes seem to persist. It does drive quite decent, so the motor "seems" to be solid so far.

Off the top of my head I know 0012 and 0022 are VVT / cam timing codes.

0713 is ATF temp sensor circuit and 0748 + 0778 are more trans codes

0338 is crank position sensor circuit if I recall right

Id think all those 7 hundred codes should clear now that the trans connector is plugged back in..?

p07 codes could be related to tranny harness

you may need swap all timing solenoids. hopefully you dont need to open the engine again to check for jumped timing.

the truck runs fine just like normal and drives okay, so I can't see how timing would be off? Thanks for pointing me a direction to check though, we'll track all these down.

Do codes come back after clearing them? if yes, check is that ECM E10 connector. The same connector as your previous tranny issue. Also check E11 connector.
