I’m sure he got other offers but like Sean Peyton, he isn’t gonna take a job for a team that doesn’t have potential in the next couple of seasons

 

My prediction: Bill sits out a year, McCarthy is fired if he doesn’t reach the NFC Title game, Jerry hires Bill and after 2 years they have a big argument and he either resigns or gets fired, and they never speak to each other again. Maybe 3 years, long enough to beat Shula’s wins.

 

That’s 3-4 seasons for him.

 

Or takes the DC job in Dallas for one year.

 

That would be an odd coaches room with Mike looking at Bill knowing “1 more playoff failure and this guy gets my job”.

 

5 or more seasons if he stayed where he was at and had to keep Mac Jones.

 

Bill will not go to Dallas. He likes to buy groceries before he cooks. Not going to happen with Jerry. Same way with all the Dak trade BS. jerry will extend Dak to make salary cap moves Dan Quinn do not let the door hit you in ass on way out. I would take Rivera as a DC

 

Interesting interview with Niners owner Jed York. Did not know that Brock Purdy’s dad pitched against and beat John Lynch’s team in college. Also week 1 of practice Brock’s rookie season Kyle told Jed he was going to be better than Jimmy or Trey.

As it was for Brady it can’t be just any team or owner. There has to be a draw, something that says “this one”. All will have negative aspects and I think an intrusive owner like Jerry would be a huge red flag that can’t be avoided. I don’t see time as an obstacle, if he just wants to keep coaching even a team that’s weak now might be attractive. Not that I think he really cares about who got credit for the Pats success but what better way than to do it again elsewhere. He may have his eye on a few different teams that are in the first few years of young head coaches whose situations might change after another year without success.

 

Good analysis. The run defense leaves much to be desired these playoffs. I don’t know why Dan Campbell stopped running in the second half over one fumble. It was clearly exposing the D line. It’s pretty amazing to me to see how much $ the D line gets paid for the niners yet only Bosa shows up. Chase Young has not done jack since he’s been here. His lack of effort is obvious on tape. This is not the time to play catch up in the second half with the reigning Super Bowl champs. Getting ahead on a big lead is what’s needed here. I believe the line backing corps/secondary will do well enough to contain Kelce, not stop. They can double team him too.

 

I think a lot of the media has had a really hard time changing their initial view of Brock Purdy being Steve Rogers “before” and persist in that same mindset that resulted in his late draft. While Kyle, like Dr Erskine, saw that what he could be was more about what was in his heart and between the ears. And unlike Cam he would definitely be the first to dive on the rock. QB is the most difficult position to evaluate and even 2 years in so many still can’t see it. Things like elite processing go even more under the radar than uncanny accuracy. The hypothetical question that makes sense to me isn’t:
“If you put him on a bad team would he be worse?”
The question should be:
“If you put him on a bad team would they become better?”
That’s why teams make trades, to get players that make them better. Purdy outa the gate has been an upgrade at the position on this team so I see no reason to doubt he could do it elsewhere.

Much wisdom. Much like parting with a player, I think it should first be "if he's gone whom do we replace him with?"

 

Sometimes things just get too messed up to be worth the effort to clean it up. Especially if you can’t see the path forward. Coaching matters but it’s still a talent based sport and the Pats don’t have enough anymore. Joe Montana was great but was he great without Bill Walsh? Was Walsh great without Joe? We were lousy before then but at the same time he was coming along we were also bringing in a lot of other talent on both sides which we hadn’t had. So in reality Carmen Policy and Eddie D had as much to do with their legacy as their skills and innovative thinking. Some players like Barry Sanders can be appreciated in isolation but most can’t get anywhere near that level of respect on their own.

 

“They hold a lot”. Yes, Captain obvious, look at the stats and you’ll see KC was called for offensive holding 2nd most in the league. Yea Bosa, I can read a stat chart too.

 

I expect it will continue to be called loosely. Getting away with as much as possible has to be part of the skill set to take advantage of the changes in post season officiating. Seattle secondary was much more physical and got away with it on their super bowl run. The key is knowing how and being able to disguise it to get the benefit of the doubt. Make them hesitate to call it and they won’t. Bosa has to force them into blatancy and keep it up. And then beat the play anyway like he did last game. Part of the reason the Niners O-line is rated low has to be a lack of this kind of talent. They’re going to be more obvious about it.
