Jesus almost 10 years ago. Wow. Still that was a great trip. One of my favorites.

Gooseneck has been on my list for a long time. Think I pointed you there long ago actually.

 

I want to go back to southern Utah,

to hike, bike, canyoneer, and chase desert trout though!

Escalante is a rad area.

I am not all that shocked. He hasn't been happy with the cars they've been putting on the track. '23 was particularly frustrating. Plus, I don't think he likes George all that much.

 

Oh I thought it was for this actual season.

I mean I get it. But Ferrari haven't been doing so hot either. Reliability is shit.

 

Ferrari has been very quick lately but they have tended to be their own worst enemy with strategy mistakes being the worst of it. I suspect the OG will bring some much need stability to them.

This season will be a fascinating watch. Hamilton is by far the most popular F1 driver, especially in the US.

 

Its an interesting time to go. One more year with Merc. Then go to Ferrari for the last season of the current power units. Then the unknown of how your car will do in the 2026 season.

Seems like a silly move by Ferrari to me. You have two pretty good drivers who can win races already . Give them a more reliable car and team who can actually give good strats and youd be more competitive over spending big money on Lewis.

 

Yeah gonna be interesting. I wonder what Carlos will do. He had a great season really. I doubt he'll just disappear. And who will move to Merc..With spending limit rules now too that has to have an impact on your decision. Merc hasn't been able to cope with that really well yet. They were so used to just spending 500 mil on a car or more.

Yeah does seem like a pretty big gamble.

And I agree. Ferrari had two excellent drivers. But I'm sure it's always good to say you have a 7 time world champ on your team.

It could be that they want him involved for the new engine development. From Lewis' perspective, get the dream of driving for Ferrari, with your fallback always being retirement if it doesn't work in his favor.

 

Always wondered how much modern drivers get to help with things. Adjust things to suit them (like brake bias, small aero changes, ect) but when it comes to engine development or overall design feel like that's just engineers.

 

Right. I just mean the cost cap on the car. Mercedes used to just throw mountains of cash at the car that no one else could. Now that they can't they struggle.

Maybe your right, but I would think there is value there when it comes to calibration, inputs and as well as the testing side of things. It would be foolish to not have the driver involved in the process. Things like the engine design, no but integration into the car I would expect it.

 

i think(don't actually know as im not that big of a fan of f1) that even testing and seat time in a car is regulated and limited. They spend more time in the Sims than the actual car. which is why F1 practice sessions are VERY important.

 

Yeah I'm not an F1 fan either. The Netflix series sparked an interest but that didn't last long. And with the bullshit this year with Andretti/Cadillac, I don't foresee myself ever having an interest in the near future.

 

I enjoy keeping tabs on it. Mainly via YouTube highlights of the races. I don't see myself watching a race in full on tv. I would watch one in person if I could ever do that. Probably pretty fun.

 

I would love to see the F1 circus in person at the Circuit of the Americas. Plus, that is Austin Tx. Great Food and Music town. Would be fun.

I got to see Alain Prost win the Phoenix GP in 1989. It was a street race. I could not afford a grandstand seat but it was a hoot to walk around and see and hear the cars perform in various corners. Was possible to get really close to them.

Ayrton Senna on pole but would eventually drop out of the race.
