Depending on the region of the country, or if you are from Canada, Supertech can be bottled by several major oil jobbers. In some areas it is Exxon Mobil, In other areas it is Warren Performance Products. On a popular oil forum it gives good results. Just remember the important thing is you are changing the oil on a regular basis. No it is not Mobil One, but a quality Group III hydro-cracked synthetic, with a good but not great additive package. Good for 5-7K OCI's.

Thanks. My OCI is 5-7k. I'm from NJ not Canada. So basically its the additive package that Mobil 1 has over the Supertech - and the additive package isn't that important with the OCI of 5-7k - right ?

So Im reading this, and let me understand.
You can take the charcoal thing out, but wont it be out with a new intake anyway? Or is it just better to buy a better stock (drop in) one and keep the stock one? Power or just mpg?

Correct. As long as your are using a modern SM/GF-4 or better rated oil, you will be protecting your engine just fine for 5-7K OCI's. If still under warranty (5yr/60K) you need to do 5K OCI's to protect the warranty.

If you remove the stock air intake then removing the charcoal filter is dumb bc you have a new intake, but for the people that keep the stock removing the basically useless secondary filter is free way to improve mileage and get a slight power boost. I've heard stories about guys doing this in the 4 bangers and getting 2-3 mpg better and also claim a slight more pick up. I plan on trying it as soon as the warranty on my truck is up :D

^gains are usually seen in combination with an after market drop in filter though

I now have the transmission and rear diff fluid changed to Amsoil synthetic and Mobil 1 5W20 in the engine. With the aFe air cleaner, the carbon filter removed and tire pressure at 36 PSI all around I'm averaging 23.7 combined driving and 28.5 highway at 70 MPH. :woot: Not bad for the size of the truck.

If you didn't realize that you were buying a truck and the MPG wouldn't be the greatest .... the best mod is to sell your truck and buy a civic :D

Yeah, I hear you. WV is like the opposite of IN. Hills everywhere VS. flat everywhere. I'd be tickled pink with 25 in the mountains.

As long as you use an OEM style filter or a TRD cold air system, you're fine. I carefully removed my carbon filter so that I could put it back in if I needed warranty work. A couple dabs of weather strip adhesive where the drill marks are will do the trick.

Oh...and keep your receipt and record the miles when you put the aftermarket filter in. I had a K&N in my 1st gen Taco and went with the aFe non-oiled washable filter. I don't have to worry about the oil messing up the MAF sensor...and the price is comparable and you don't have to hassle with the oil.

I don't see how your mileage is that low. The worst mileage I ever got was 23.5 and that was on my first tank.
