Driving the backup rig (Duramax, hardly ever drive it), our employees said it was making brake noise, they definitely weren't joking :) We're going to have a meeting about letting me know BEFORE they get to this point.

Definitely better after fixing this. Weird thing is Napa pads only lasted 6 months or a year, so we picked the best grade they had to try as a replacement.

isn't it crazy how some can treat other's things? Just drive it til it explodes,,,, sad.
More than likely can't find a replacement for dipshits, so we just have to deal with them for the time being.

    Yeah.
Seems like most people don't understand how a car works these days, so the best they can tell you is, "It's making a funny noise," or "It's not working quite right." And if they do try to figure stuff out, they listen to dipshits on TikTok or YouTube and get bad info.

The same basic concepts apply today even with all the electronics.

But AI and ChatGPT will fix all of it and we'll never have to figure things out on our own again. Wait, they get their info from the same shady sources.

    Where's my VCR.

@Vlady Thanks, I guess we have to dissasemble something to get to THE OTHER tranny harness connector, going to try that tomorrow. He could get to one, but not the other. I think there was a weird clip that didn't get locked in.

Another weird thing, brake pedal seems to have only moderate vacuum assist and the idle is a bit high, usually I would think that's a vacuum leak, but not sure. We're going to work on the tranny harness connector first.

Make sure the brake booster hose is fully connected to that vacuum pump outlet.

Maybe clean the IAC valve and make sure it's securely connected?

The limited information is one thing if told right when it first happens, that's the issue I think.

    I still have a VCR..and a VCR/DVD combo from GoVideo

    Lol, what?!?

These trucks are drive by wire, haven’t had an idle air control valve since 2005.

Sorry, long day; brain fart. I meant MAF. Might be a good idea to clean the PCV valve as well.

If the high idle isn't a vacuum issue or related to the MAF/PCV I'd guess a loose connection with the 02 sensors or perhaps a loose connection somewhere else. :notsure:

What’s with the “correction”? Do you know what drive by wire means? Because these trucks ARE drive by wire, not cable.

Yes, I do. These trucks don't have a cable from the throttle body to the accelerator. Cable/wire same difference. And the horse you rode in on...

There's not going to be anything amiss with the PCV valve @ this mileage.
Easy enough, but a waste of five minutes the OP could be spending on something else.
I'm sure he knows this though..

We used to just spray WD-40 around the motor until a vacuum leak sucked it into the intake manifold and the motor revved slightly, then we knew where the leak was. I think we need to fix the transmission connector issue first, maybe that will take care of a lot of the codes.

I also grabbed the infrared temp tester so we can change the transmission fluid, you have to wait until it gets to a certain temp. Now we have to figure out how to get the tranny fluid (WS I think?) halfway up the side of the tranny to the fill hole, but one thing at a time.

The duramax brake performance is seriously improving :)

Use a long hose snaked up into the engine bay and a funnel. Easiest way to fill the trans if you don’t have a car lift.

Some ~3/4" OD hose fits nicely into the fill port of the trans. Snake it down from the engine bay, funnel ATF into the hose

The temp check procedure (jumping 2 pins on the OBD and shifting back and forth a few times) will be way more accurate than an infrared gun
Best to read up on it here, it can take a few shots to get into temp check mode

Use a funnel connected to 5/8 OD vinyl tube to snake it down from under the hood and into the fill hole.
Add 3° to what the IR temp gun reads when pointed at the bottom of the pan.
